It might have been 8 gauge. I've ran a lot of 10 and 12 gauge Romex in my life and I struggled to bend it to get into the new breaker. I'm not as good at looking at a wire and guessing the gauge as I used to be.
If I was you I’d stick that 30A breaker back in there before you have a fire…

Running 50A thru a wire meant for half that amperage, especially for long periods of time like charging a vehicle is begging for a fire.

Also since you swapped the breaker already you should be able to find the label on the wire to see what gauge it is… if it’s not 6 or bigger put that 30A back in it.

So I made it back from my road trip last night a little after 10. Made the trip in a standard range Lightning XLT. The truck itself is pretty good. Not super eventful but getting a charge for the return trip was a bit of a struggle and I had a little range anxiety getting back to get back to Iowa City. I was trying to give myself 30-40 miles of buffer for the estimated range and that worked out pretty well for the most part but as soon as I unplugged to start back north the estimated range when I unplugged lost like 30 miles before I got out on the highway which kind of freaked me out a little because I went from 40 miles extra to 10 and I wasn't so sure about that. It creeped back up as I went and I had about 30 miles of range when I pulled into the charging station.

Getting charged in the shed was a problem. Like I feared there was a 50 amp plug there but it had a 30 amp breaker on it. It charged for less than an hour before tripping the breaker but I didn't realize it. I was lucky I had a Juice charger along with the Ford included charging cable because I could set that to pull under 30 amps to keep the breaker from tripping. While that wasn't ideal it was working while I went and dug through the old mans stash of stuff from when he ran a sawmill and found a 50 amp breaker after a couple hours so I was able to get a full 40 amps out of the charger after that. I was hoping to leave with about 80% SOC so I wouldn't have to sit at a charger for too long on the way back but I had to double my time there because I didn't want to get home at midnight. Once everything was rolling it was no problem. I didn't have a NACS adapter otherwise I would have probably stopped to charge in Mt Pleasant to top off on both legs of the trip. Overall it wasn't too bad of an experience, not sure I'm ready to make the jump to a BEV yet, especially since I just bought a new truck in February but I think that truck would be perfect for about 360 days out of the year for me.
I know when we turn the ac on in our bolt the range will instantly drop around 20 miles, that might be what happened when you started. Do you know how many miles you made it on that charge?

This is where I am as well. I have a car paid off with about 24k miles. I will drive it until its dead or explodes lol. Once that's done I'll look at an electric car. My wife has an SUV for any trips outside the city. An electric city driver would be just fine for me (work from home).

Boy was I wrong!! Just traded in my car with roughly 31k miles on it for another SUV (Atlas). This one is bigger than our current SUV (Q7). I am going to miss driving my car but I won't miss getting the kids in and out of the car seats. My older kid already loves the new car. He too disliked the "little car" lol. I like the Atlas but I already told my wife she's driving it as her primary vehicle. I'll stick to the Q7 as it feels a little less like a school bus.... I kid of course. She told me which car I'd be driving lol.

I think I made it 100 miles with 30 miles left for predicted range. The SOC was 70% when I started the trip.

I think there is just too many factors/variables the ‘2nd vehicle’ that it makes the study perhaps not useless, but severely diluted at best.

I will use myself as an anecdote. We have 2 cars, one being a ICE fleet company vehicle. My next company vehicle will be ICE unless there are affordable (read: cheap and available) EV with double the current available range. Because of this I would fall into the ‘go back to ICE’ category. Yes, this is a somewhat unique situation, but there are tons of other unique situations that this would apply. Not to mention half ton trucks where electric options are limited at best.
If it’s company provided, you would not fall into that category. It’s for those who purchase the vehicles

I hope they've improved that turbo 4 in the Atlas. My god I hate that motor.....looking at the specs, it looks like they have improved it.

I still don't understand why everyone is going to turbo 4's. The old 6 cylinders in these mid size SUV's was so much better to drive.

Very few people buy a mid size SUV for the drive.

I liked the rest of the vehicle but if it would have been my choice, I wouldn't have bought it for this reason alone. Maybe this was just a bad example, I drove a Toyota Highlander with a turbo 4 that wasn't as bad.

Don't get me wrong I'd rather have a NA 6 vs a turbo 4 in most vehicles. Little sporty type cars are the exceptions.

Toyota switched to a turbo 4 (from a V6 NA) in 2023 in the Highlander. The combined MPG improved by only 1. The old NA is a much smoother engine but the T4 has early torque.

4th recall on the Cybertruck issued today. Trim pieces that fall off and wiperblade issues.
I used to preach not buying a first year model, but it seems like there are a ton of recalls on about every vehicle and not just 1st year. My cousin bought a new F150 a few years ago and it's had numerous recalls. Some are as big as engine failure and I noticed today they released another one. In this one, the truck can shift to 1st gear at highway speed.

On the cybertruck, the accelerator sticking would be my big concern. I know how to put the Tesla's in neutral, but I don't think everyone would. The small font size one probably wouldn't have me running to the dealer.
