Considering New Mexico has made one March Madness appearance in the last 10 years, and they haven’t been in a bowl game since 2016. I would say most definitely not and I’m not sure how anyone could justify their inclusion in the B12

I don't think there are any schools left worth having unless the ACC implodes and you throw a line to the two, four, or six best you can get the Big Ten and the SEC don't want (e.g., Pitt, Louisville, etc.). I imagine something of a replay of the pilfering of the Pac-12 is going to go down out east at some point.

After that, no thanks, but even then there would be plenty ahead of New Mexico in line...

Oregon State and Washington State (feel bad for these guys but better them than us)
UConn (mostly for basketball and hope they can build their football program)
Gonzaga (as a basketball-only addition, of course)
San Diego State
Memphis

...none are great but all would be much preferred to New Mexico.

No.

God no.

Good ******* Lord absolutely ******* no.

This is a contestant for stupidest question ever asked on CF and there is some STIFF competition.

They bring less than nothing to the table.

I love NM as a state like so many others, and ABQ is a great city, but UNM just doesn't have the profile. It would water-down the TV contract.

Love the basketball history and the PIT is a great environment for hoops though... at least it used to be. Not so sure about these days.

San Diego State would be an obvious choice. They have an excellent basketball program and the football is on the rise. The San Diego area would be a strong get for the Big 12.

The only way NM would make sense is if they somehow build the place up a ton, both student numbers, endowment, and of course the athletic dept. If they grew over the next 5-10 years the way ISU has, then I think you could consider them. But that's a LONG row to hoe.

I love the idea of having big state schools in the Big12, they have brand recognition (ie the state) and they are often pretty big. But some are not. New Mexico is not.

I'm headed to NM next week. For Philmont, not football. Let's keep it that way.
Very cool, a college buddy of mine worked at the scout camp a couple of simmers and it sounded amazing.

My wife and I just got back from a week in New Mexico, 2 days in ABQ and 5 in Chama. Considering there are no pro teams in the state I was surprised at the lack of any noticeable college sports support (apparel, ads, etc.) Adding a team from New Mexico would bring little to the table IMO.

Is this for real? I know it looks good on a map, but do they bring anything other an geographical continuity?

The first question you need to ask to see if a school might be a good get for the B12 is "Are they currently in the ACC?" If the answer to that is no, then you ask "Is it Uconn?" If the answer to that is also no, then you really don't need to continue the conversation.

I’m not sure about keeping them in the USA, and I enjoyed visiting there. 4 corners or bust!
