Not exactly sure.
If given the time, probably. But you could say that about most sports.

How many sports could LeBron or Steph have dominated with their respective size/strength and skill had they started at it from childhood? Think of all the American football players who could have killed it in gymnastics (just one thing) and they don't have an olympic sport at all.

I do think there's an argument against 3x3 and a lot of other sports of how widely it is played.
I agree. I have a hard time to say best athlete ever for anyone. Each sport has its own specialties. When I think pure athlete, I think of someone who can go do any sport at any time.

Can Michael jordon do the rings, can the top football player take Michael off the dribble, can Biles hit a 90 mph curve ball and so on and so on.

Put LeBron in soccer right now… he gets smoked… put him in the pool right now he gets smoked… put him on the VB court right now he gets smoked.

Put him in the 3x3 right now… he’d win. That’s my point.

The since childhood argument is irrelevant, although understood.

If Labron started training as a goalie a few years ago, probably not now because of his age, he would have been a heck of a goalie. Athletically he is tall, has good lateral movement and long arms. He would have to learn technique and how the game works from the goalie position

I think Steph Curry could have been world class in just about anything involving hand-eye coordination. Tennis, ping pong, curling, shooting, archery, billiards, darts, golf, bowling, even soccer probably. He's on another level

Really hoping Kloth and Nuss can get this win in Beach. Battling back in set 2!

If I’m China, I serve Kloth every time. Nuss is too crafty and solid.

She's incredible.

Related: I love that her name is all over the pool records hanging at the downtown Y in Des Moines. I point that out to my daughter every time she swim

Honest question-why are her records in the Des Moines Y?

Just to play devil’s advocate, not that I actually disagree…

Some sports are too taxing to go 100% in multiple disciplines. Maybe basketball is or maybe not.

A lot of the best wrestlers could probably do freestyle and Greco Roman but they’d be at a very serious disadvantage unless everybody did. The argument might be if a sport really needs all the disciplines, distances, events, etc

Her and A'ja are next level, clearly the two best in the league IMO.

I’m learning that, I was pretty ignorant. As an NBA junkie Wilson’s game reminds me of Hakeem but if he had grown up in current era draining 3s. The way she is top 5 in every stat is so much like what he’d do.

I can't pretend to know jack about gymnastics but isn't Biles in discussion for greatest athlete of all time now when you view the short window for her sport, how demanding it is, and what she's done over a long span?

Not gymnastics but just all sports.

It's a hard to dream up a more dramatic sports story with both her and Lee. There's a lot there beyond just the winning.

Conversation, sure. Is she actually? I don't know. I understand a gymnast hardly has the opportunity to win nearly as many medals as a swimmer can (although Biles is changing that narrative a bit), but in the end I still think Ledecky ultimately is a better athlete than her. Yes, Biles has moves on the beam and, if she medals in the parallel bars, on the bars named after her, but Ledecky has world records in I'm not sure which event - 800m Free or 1500m Free - perhaps both - that may never be broken. When you set a record in that kind of distance swimming event that may never be approached that's insanity.

But it certainly is one hell of a discussion - but it's a discussion where you might as well be comparing apples and oranges.
