Guess they think Daniels will stay healthy and they also got a pretty favorable conference schedule.
I never liked looking at any polls until mid October. Let the teams play six or so games before coming out with a ranking.
But then how would they artificially prop up the SEC and Big10 if you’re basing it on actual on field performance?
Have to start Texas in the top 10 nearly every year so the networks can sell their brand before they start losing!
Be interesting to see how hot Dabo’s seat gets if Clemson gets worked by UGA in Week 1.
They're trendy in the same way we were from 2019-21. The same way Texas Tech was last year. I'm more confused by the Arizona love.
We'll see how Grimes does as the new OC at KU. I think he's a downgrade from their last OC, although his offenses at Baylor gave us trouble.
I dont get the Iowa love.
They always over rank them preseason.
They might do ok with their pathetic schedule, but when they actually play someone with a pulse they will get killed just as in years past.
Just a sham they let them basically protect the entire B1G West.
Look at their first 5 games. They also have NC St (also ranked) and AT FSU. Could get REAL spicy if things go wrong...
Yeah it's the bottom of the poll but 5/25 is not bad at all.
About a third of the conference ranked or almost ranked.
Add this to the normal dominance where we have 8/9 ranked basketball teams before they have to play each other.
They really hoodwinked the Big Ten with claiming all those rivalry games.
ISU's average SOS the past decade is 11 and Iowa's is 38. 11 is actually way stronger than it seems as an average because for a team to be say #3 it means they can basically never drop below #6. I'm guessing averaging #8 SOS for a decade is probably the toughest possible and we're at 11 for a decade prior to this year.
ISU's will probably drop down to something like 30ish and Iowa's will probably tick up just slightly to about 30ish (talking average, this year ISU's will probably end up stronger). There is a path now where ISU can catch an "easy" year once in a while like Iowa has often had though where the 10 team era of Big 12 guaranteed an elite schedule strength every single year. We didn't get that draw this year with our Big 12 schedule having plenty of good teams, but it can happen some other year and hope we feast on it.

Yeah, but you start them out in low 20s and they'll pretty consistently beat the unranked teams on their schedules. Then they play someone with a pulse and get their doors blown off. The team with a pulse gets a win over a ranked opponent and Iowa gets to hang around in the 20s because their only losses are to "really great teams."
Iowa is the personification of neither good nor bad, but play a very specific role in propping up the B10.
It gives us all something to debate and makes sure a few select teams/conferences get a solid head start so if they lose a bye game or something they can still 'survive' in the end.
We're in the 'they're not even hiding it now' phase of this all being about the money so whatever.
FWIW 30 is probably about right for ISU and it would be fun to see them ranked a few weeks this season.
