Have we had this type of thing before for football or am I too early?

Perhaps I'm being a bit impatient but go ahead and merge/delete if there's a thread tomorrow.

Predictions? Things to look for? Info on North Dakota? Other things to be excited about?

Prediction: I'm guessing like a 20-6 slow roll type of win.

Things to look for: Looking at the trenches on both sides of the ball more than anywhere else. Is there potential there or are we looking at another work in progress type of deal?

I would like to see if someone like Carson Hansen finds more time on the field somehow. Seemed like the type of guy you need out there somewhere.

Excited for: the opening game being on FS1. ESPN+ hasn't worked for me on any device over the last several years for the Labor Day weekend game.
Also just excited for a full slate of college football games on Saturday.

+1000 on the FS1

I don’t think they’re remotely going to “slow roll” this.

45-10. And I’m being conservative.

Agree. A 20-6 result would kind of concern me.

ISU has seemed to have opened things up in the opening game the last two seasons but I'm expecting a standard CMC era September including a 'hold the cards close' type of opener and so on.

Whether it's 45-10 or 13-12 I know it doesn't indicate much for the overall season's outcome.

I’m not. Not even remotely.

When you have a few cards, you hold them close to the vest so no one can figure out what you have.

When you have a pile of cards, you play half of them, so your next opponent has to figure how to defend them—before you throw a chunk of the other half at them.

This team has a huge pile of cards.

Complementing that, the quiet theme among players this season is “going from underdog to top dog”.

Time to stop expecting based on past trends. We’ve reached the point where Matt Campbell’s program blossoms.

A weekly thread would be a good place for a scout writeup, predictions, injury updates, etc.

Tried to find a preview of UND as a team but hard to find. Best was this:

UND only had 1 guy on 1st team all conference, WR Bo Belquist. Had a FB and LB on 2nd team all-conference, and guys honorable mention.

In comparision, SDST had 15; Ill St & NDST had 13 each. NDST & SDST had 7 guys 1st team each themselves.

From SI:
UNI and North Dakota are expected to experience rebuilding seasons in 2024. Both programs lose experienced quarterbacks and have massive question marks at multiple key positions. The Fighting Hawks only return four offensive starters, including having to replace multiple starters along the offensive line. The defense struggled last season, ranking No. 90 nationally in yards per play allowed.

Despite that, the writers picked them 5th roughly same as Southern Ill and Ill St.

Also, I was today years old when I learned Montana State like to go by “MOST”, which is kinda great.

All this makes it feel more like 38-7 and lots of deep bench guys get some action.

And... here we go!! Let the 35+ pt win predictions fly folks... and when we win by like 10 or 14 pts... we'll hear everyone say.... "no biggie... a W is a W... we always start slow".

I'm going to say 27-10 ISU. It will never be in doubt... but we'll come away thinking we definitely have some things to work on before the Iowa game.

Of course it’s no biggie, clinedude. It’s an opinion. I have no control over what happens once Gameday rolls around.

If I’m right, no biggie. If we win by three, no biggie. If we win by fifty, no biggie.

That’s how opinions work when you have no way to control the outcome yourself.

If we win by 10 you’ll be first one complaining.

28-10. Won't be pretty as Campbell will ugly the game up, similar to UNI last year.

I am definitely in the “W is a W” camp.
