41-10, Cyclones win.

Jump out to a 24-7 lead at half and after a fast opening 2nd half score, we put the breaks on and cruise to an easy win with a pretty boring 2nd half.

What I'll be watching for more than anything is the OL. We have to create push and holes for Abu and co. to be able to run through. If Abu has to constantly create for himself and out-juke defenders, I'll be concerned for the Iowa game and conference play.

Also for the love of all that is holy, please open up the playbook.

I’m not. Not even remotely.

When you have a few cards, you hold them close to the vest so no one can figure out what you have.

When you have a pile of cards, you play half of them, so your next opponent has to figure how to defend them—before you throw a chunk of the other half at them.

This team has a huge pile of cards.

Complementing that, the quiet theme among players this season is “going from underdog to top dog”.

Time to stop expecting based on past trends. We’ve reached the point where Matt Campbell’s program blossoms.
also since when has conservative play calling or the so called "hiding the playbook from Iowa" excuse ever worked? I'm not calling Rhoads a good coach but the reason he had a decent success rate against Iowa is because he threw everything at them.

The were multiple little droppings of supposedly inside info from big personalities around here feeding what that guy is talking about too. When pressed on this, there’s was very little substantive information and projecting was going on by those that drove this narrative. How you described it was way more the reasoning for that season than the other “story” of that year.
Good call. I just appear to be regurgitating inaccurate info

My prediction for some posters on the game day thread:
ISU - not enough
ND - too many

The sky will be falling Saturday night. We’ll be lucky to win a conference game.

In reality, I think we win by 20-24 points. The only question will be when the staff shuts down the offense to run clock.

There were some absolute studs at different positions but there were still some gaps too including a leaky back end of the defense.

Also the theory of meeting a sort of threshold for abilities in 2020 may have been a factor.

Sometimes that creates a sort of burn out effect.

Every game/week is different though so unless they go 5-7 or something I'll not let this game dictate much.
if we win this game, say, 20-6, the headlines on Sunday/Monday will be that of more concern than serenity.

The level between FCS and good FBS teams is substantial and we should show that.

Which still doesn't mean anything on the season as a whole.

The same goes for if ISU wins 45-3 and looks super sharp.

Neither outcome predicts the season is all I'm saying.

that's valid, for sure

i think, though, a 20-6 victory would be allow for the cause for concern to be alot louder

I've been an ISU fan long enough to learn not take the first few games as the bell weather for the season, haha.

If they do come out strong, great but as the season goes along and a few losses come up, we'll see the 'why aren't they playing like the first game?' comments, ignoring that opponents scout and counter to trends, and sports as a rule isn't linear.

Campbell will try to establish the run the entire first half in a slow slugfest and be up only 14-3 at half, then UND will get a field goal to start the second half and ISU will throw a little more in response with the final score being around 31-13

That’s probably very close to accurate right there.

idk maybe because we have a clear talent advantage and we should realistically dominate teams like this....last time we barely scraped by an FCS squad, we followed it up with a measly 7-6 season in which we should've won 9+ games with that roster

20-6 ain't exactly 'scraping by'. I think we win by a lot more than that anyway.
