The LB’s were probably the weakest position group on the team going into the season…. even when healthy. Now it’s downright scary.

As of this minute, I’d say Iowa wins next week 27-13.

I don’t get too wrapped up in the coach speak and what is said to the press by our staff. Sometimes it’s their job to pee on the sheeps’ collective leg and tell us it’s raining.

What bothered me today:
Lack of ability to stop a mediocre offense on third down.
Lack of good run blocking and a near total absence of anything that resembled a run game today. If we can’t run on UND, how poor is our run game going to be against the TOE?

Unless we make drastic improvement between now and next Saturday, we’re gonna take a serious beatin’ next week.

There’s no way there’s that many points scored.

The o-line got no push. The d-line got pushed back-- quite a lot. The LB were nowhere near good enough to make up for the d-line.

The defense needs to take 2 steps forward real fast, or its gonna be a rough year.

Offense will be explosive but inconsistent if the o-line doesnt get better.

I think theyll be fine but Dallas seems off the table.

Was Dallas on the table? Admittedly I have completely tuned out any and all preseason hype merchants and have just been looking at and listening to people that don’t have a vested monetary interest in getting ISU clicks and subscriptions. How anyone could look at last season and the O-line not having really any new blood and a new OC and think we’re going to be top 2 in this conference?

Sometimes having everyone back is good, sometimes having everyone back means more of the same.

I actually think the last two opening games (UNI and SEMO) were much better than the previous 5 of Campbell’s before that (excluding the SDSU game that got canceled)

This one wasn’t pretty but was atypical from his early years. We only had 7 real possessions and scored TDs on 3 of them. If the O got the average 12 possessions a game they would probably have scored another 2 TDs. UND had 15 more minutes than us of possession.

We also threw 26 passes to 22 rushes. And going into the 4th quarter we had 21 passes to 11 rushes. I feel like we were way more aggressive this year’s opening game than year’s past.

The problem this year was the D absolutely could not get off the field. UND had a very methodical game plan and executed it well. But it still was alarming how poorly the D did stopping 3rd down conversions. I was happy with the secondary, but the LBs reallly struggled stopping the run and covering the short routes to that UND possession receiver.
They scored 3 points

New guys, same guys, tough schedule, lighter schedule, it doesn't matter; ISU figures outa way to win 7-8 and this year won't be any different imo.

Also bothered me that we were perfectly happy to win 21-3 and not try to score on our second to last possession with 4 mins left in the 4th qtr.

We just ran the ball, burned the clock and called it good. Why would we just stop at 21-3? Why not keep throwing it and keep playing?

If we scored in 20seconds, put the defense back out there, and got another guy injured, would you have been happy? I was more than happy to let that clock run out

Most coaches have this plan on games like today:

Get in.

Get the win.

Get out.
