When we went in '14 we were staying with a friend near downtown (a year out of college at that point), but some people we knew parked east of the river and we walked over. It was not a long/bad walk at all, and avoided Melrose and the mayhem directly by the stadium.

I think they run shuttles from Hancher and Finkbine but don't quote me on that.

Been to about 8 ISU/little hawk games and had no problems at all. Planning to go this Saturday game

Always walked down Melrose street were the majority students party with clone fans and get some FU from kids but thats it. There is park by Hancher Auditorium that great park at and take bus to stadium

Plan on it not going well. If you only get cussed out a couple times, it’s a win. Be prepped for worse.

Also, tailgating and traffic is NOTHING like Ames and is a cluster from hell.

Everybody else will give their own experience with gameday stuff so let me give you some other experiences. The traffic. It's a NIGHTMARE getting out of there.
Don't even consider Melrose.
Don't go to Airliner, it's over rated. Go to Shorts for a good burger.
This.

Go early, finding parking is awful. Traffic leaving the game is horrible. Plan on doing a little post game tailgating to let the traffic clear out. Stadium seating is crowded, they pack 25 people into rows designed for 20. Plan on standing during most of the game to see over the people standing in front of you.

Whatever stories of bad experiences in here are very isolated for the most part. I’m a diehard clone, born and raised in Ames, and have gone to plenty of games at kinnick with hardly any issues. We have tailgated with plenty of Hawkeyes, at their tailgates and always had a good time. I wouldn’t worry about a thing. Just have a good time.

My last trip we had open beers and batteries thrown at us. It was the first and last.

Reading everyone else's stories is giving me flashbacks of Nam. (I wasn't there I just watch alot of movies and have been to Kinnick. Lol)

My wife and I were just gifted tickets for Saturday by her uncle who is a season ticket holder for hawk football.

It was a super awesome gesture, but I find myself having a bit of trepidation about what I may experience in Iowa City while wearing cardinal and gold and cheering on the clones deep in enemy territory. Is anyone else in this boat, or have made the trek to Iowa City for this game and lived to tell the tale?

Be wary of every hawk fan you come across. Be prepared to defend yourself and your wife. You will be yelled/cussed at, probably have objects thrown at you. Some of those objects might be full of piss. Enjoy.

Man I might seriously have to consider getting rid of these after reading yours and a few other comments
I’ve been there twice and will never go back. Major reasons: terrible access by car, the seats were designed about 100 years ago and people’s butts are much wider, it only takes one Ahole to ruin your day and there are 70,000 in attendance.

Been once. 2022 win.
Have no intention of going back.

I got yelled for not waving to the hospital. I was on my phone making a donation. When I said so then I got, "I don't think your $10 did much." I replied that it did more than a wave and the guy wanted to physically fight.

Walking in a can of beer was thrown very high over the crowd. It landed and exploded about 10-feet away from me. Would have killed a person if it landed on a head. No idea who threw it and if it was random or directed at anyone in particular.

Went to the 98 game where we broke the 15 year or whatever losing streak. Went with my buddy who's an Iowa grad and die hard Hawk. Was the only Cyclone in my section but I cheered when we did good things; nothing obnoxious. Once when Iowa had a good play this fat **** in front of me turned around and screamed right in my face.

My buddy turned to me and said "I'm embarrassed to be an Iowa fan right now".

I said "You should be, but not because of that".

All in all though, it was fine. Some drunk yelling but that's it.

It’s always depressing to travel for a game and see a loss, but especially in Iowa City. Not even that I’ve been treated poorly there, just that Hawk fans are such obnoxious winners.

Hok fans are the worst. Glad we don't treat those asshats as poorly as they treat us.... regardless of venue. We are above them in many ways.

Sitting amongst the older alum/rich donor types is usually pretty tame. BUT, I’ve seen everything from beer poured on people, a guy urinating on someone, fights, etc. I’ve been there 5-6 times. Two of those were pleasant experiences and both were ISU losses.
