Play back every pass with the All 22 angle and come back to us with what the safety alignments would have allowed. On broadcast angle we can't know what is happening on deep routes.

*raises hand to vote for sky cam view for every game.

Then the 'he had a guy wide open!' turns into 'he had a LT get inside and didn't have time to step there and had to try the underneath window since a safety was also shading that side' or similar.

No he didn't but we were at the nine on 3rd down and only needed a couple of yards for the first at the beginning of the game. Tried to change the play is when we got 2 penalties for movement. That was why were ended up punting from the 1 yard line again. Would have been nice to have spread them out and run some type of RPO at the corner trying to pick up the first down. Once it became 3rd and nine we were in trouble. Thought the announcer made a good observation there, in that end zone, you get the play called and go on first cadence.

You must not realize that our QB's don't change plays on their own, the play changes are coming from the sidelines.

Is that for sure, because the announcers stated that he was changing something, maybe it was the blocking scheme. But the guy has started for the 2nd season, if he does not have the ability to check to a different play at the line, then something is going on with the coaching staff.
If you are right and the QB cannot change the play, then why on 3rd and two from the nine in the shadow of their end zone, not go on a quick count?

Those announcers don't know **** about what is actually going on,

Changing the play vs. changing the play in that situation are two different things.

That would likely be a scenario to A) not turn it over and B) keep it safe but try to get out and let the coaches guide that.

Imo ISU seems to not do well with those kinds of things which is maybe a staff issue but coaches calling plays there is probably normal.

And announcers usually struggle with knowing anything about ISU so I doubt they knew anything about this.

Maybe not, but Becht was doing some there, maybe changing the blocking scheme, no one knows what he was doing. But that goes back to my second question, then why not go up and snap the ball on the first motion?

Yeah he was changing the play because the sideline signaled a new play. The coaches in to press box probably didn't like the look from Iowa vs the play they called so they called a different play.

Historically going fast isn't good for us. I cringe any time we try to go fast.

We won the game and I'm not crying too hard about this but I really wish we could have tested their defensive backs a little earlier. The slant in and then running by the stationary safety was brilliant and I really think we could have done that all day. They were not respecting our passing game at all. I wish we could do more of that double move with our receivers. They are quick enough and good route runners.

Also, the first down on our last drive we had, Noel caught it going to the side line. Next snap we ran the same formation, and the DB turned for just a second to see if we were throwing outside again and Noel was up the sideline. The 2nd play was setup perfectly by the first down play. I really think our receivers can play that game all day and win. It was beautifully executed by Rocco.

End of the day we won the game, but I really hope we will try to stretch the field more giving our running game a better chance to be successful.
But teams run plays to set up the big play for later. It’s a chess match

On the play Rocco threw his pick we had a guy going deep wide open. Rocco just missed the read.

Not sure what specific thread I saw it, but I know another poster on here said after the Illinois State game that they felt we could break Iowas defense with double moves because Iowa always bites on first move.

I only saw one attempt at a double move, and it is the reason we won the game. Hell of a job by that poster to call it out, and I’m curious if more teams start to use it against Iowa
