This is a better ranking that depicts what is going on in college education and how their graduates are perceived. Relying on a national media source that is driven by ad revenue and historically has not favored universities in "flyover zones" is now a waste of time. Talk to employers.

Easy to use rankings - national, by state, and read about how and why they rank universities.

Really? Do u really think that viewpoint in new?

Since 1858, we have been teaching undergrads in Ag with some professors that only had a masters. My best professor in the B College was a 25 year veteran of a large manufacturing facility for my Quant analysis class. He was an IE grad with a masters in IE.

We have never been the best ag school, but usually in top ten. I also worry about the other 87% of our students, not just the 13%. Write a check to the ISU Foundation destined for the ag college that only supplements professor salaries.

So you rejected the ranking of a national media source that is driven by ad revenue and ranked ISU #121 in favor of...a national media source that is driven by ad revenue and ranked ISU much further up the list...at #119.

Speaking of flawed methodologies...

U obviously didn'took at their parameters on how they rank. This is probably the best, real ranking out there. Did u see Iowa, Ku, KSU, UNL rankings?

Do u understand the role of a land grant institution? If u are a LG institution in a slow growth state, then u will docked because of this strategic role for isu. U gotta love the media hitting universities that are their to help first generation college students. How do u think the top 20% does from Iowa state? That is not measured.

Again, Ivy College of Business Supremacist.
All other colleges at ISU should look at Ivy and see how great they're doing.

Why do you want only the top 20% measured? That’s kinda a weird cut off.

Also a lot of land grant university’s are ranked very high, the slow growth state comment is interesting though.

I don't want just the top 20%. My point was our top 20% generally compares with anyone. Yes, most land grants that are highly ranked have med schools. We don't. When you are from a slow growth state, no med school, in the flyover zone, u will not be judged favorably by usnwr.

The WSJ rankings have a completely rejuggled rankings of the top 150ish.....top 25% of all colleges. They favor schools that have a greater emphasis on stemm majors vs. the implicit bias of usnwr.

I can’t see the wsj rankings so don’t know their methodology, but I’ll link the us news ones. Only real area of bias as I’ve mentioned is the academic peer rankings are most likely over weighted. Outside of that it’s fairly straightforward

Also I’m a little confused why you are praising the WSJ one so much when it has ISU ranked the same essentially?

An accredited degree is an accredited degree in my opinion. At least at the undergrad level.

But who you rub elbows and make friends with in those circles matters significantly.

I think that’s the major difference between Miss St and Harvard.

There isn't much evidence graduates of "elite" schools have better career outcomes.

Iowa State would be somewhere in the "moderately selective" category.

Their findings are such that most of the earning bonus from people attending more selective schools comes from their higher likelihood to graduate (which is probably more of a reflection of the student and their underlying character/motivation than anything about the institution's quality). For those completing their degree, the main benefits of Harvard versus Mississippi State are there but rather minimal.

Harvard freshmen have a much better outlook than Westfield State freshman (a real school in western Mass). But once we're down to graduating seniors, much of the difference is gone.

The authors note the data above does not account for regional cost of living differences. Harvard graduates tend to live on the East Coast while Mississippi State graduates tend to live in, well, Mississippi. Account for the cost of living difference between NYC and Jackson and much of the wage "premium" from having a fancy degree from a fancy college or university starts to vaporize or even disappear with a COL adjustment.

Not disagreeing with you but things have radically shifted in both education and the world since 1998 and 2008. In 1998 if you had a degree you were pretty much set. It’s a much different landscape now.
