"Pick KSU over ISU" is not much the disrespect that CF posters seem to want to play up. It was essentially a slight nod to KSU by a few votes. I am not as huge of a fan as many in the Big 12 are of the KSU guards and would have given a very slight nod to ISU but I get the near dead heat in the "vote".

KSU will probably start five seniors. They didn't play great at the end of 2024 but ended up ranked in the teens. A lot will be riding on whether Lee can hold up. Between her knee and ankle she was literally limping through the season.

Neither school has much history in winning the Big 12. Last was KSU in 2007-08 but that was Deb Patterson. Working against KSU is that Mitte hasn't any history of seriously competing for 1st so that's something. He has an overall losing record in conference play.

It seems picking against the obvious momentum to me assuming both teams have similar core.

Day 25

Wanted to mention another 25 I couldn't find a picture of in Tawanya Herbert.
Tawanya was guard under Theresa Becker. Back then the one charm of the small crowds was you could hear everything and Tawanya was guard who got all up in person she was defending and while defending would be very "vocal" on the court.

Preseason poles are nice but it is the post season awards that show what people have actually done during the year.

Thanks for the small refreshing note on Herbert. It reminds us of forgotten personalities who have contributed to and built our Cyclone WBB program.

I admit to not paying close attention to Iowa State Sports from 1989 to 2001, not even Cyclone WBB. I often worked about 60 hours a week, had three young kids, and my wife was often on the road.

Doing this has really been a nice nostalgia trip. Day 16 will be a very special blast from the past. :)

Off on a tangent detectives, I have had this image floating around for years and never took the time to identify the players in the image. Don't know the year, but I think it was against Michigan State at Hilton. Any ideas?

Looks like the program from ISU/MSU, 1/3/88. The picture wouldn't be from that game.

It's probably from an intrasquad scrimmage.

Looking at the team picture and going by hairstyle and first # as 3:

6'-2" Lisa Greiner #30
or
5'-9" Kirsten Beach #34

Leaning towards the taller of the two.

Like the hair. These days it's lot's of long ponytails.

Day 23 (first but not last of current players I'm going to represent)

Honorable mention to choices I pondered but couldn't find photos maybe @mred can work his newspapers.com magic for these 2 as well.

Sarah Robson - In the Becker days there was sweet last off the bench in the form of Jenny Hobbs but to many the most remembered last off the bench player was Sarah.

Melanie Young - She was the star forward for ISU when I started following the program.
