Just a FYI and why I don’t go to night games since we live 3 hours away. It takes a long time after the game to exit the parking lots to get on Hwy 30. I’ve waited an hour at times in a line in the car to get out. If the game is not in doubt, I leave my seat with 3 minutes left. You can catch the end of the game on the radio while sitting in line and the post game analysis and call ins are interesting.
Good advice. Thanks! What would the radio station be that airs Cyclones postgame conversation?

@coolmooinlou the Cave Inn has been gone a while. Was still there when I was a student. They had these retched “wine coolers” for a quarter that were basically a small plastic cup filled with chipped ice and cheap red wine. They were awful but we got them anyway cause they were cheap.

The Library, now Welch Ave Station, is on the other side of Welch a bit further south near the convenience store. Back then, I think maybe it was a 7-11. Now it is a Kum & Go. Yeah, don’t get me started on the name.

On campus, the Vet Med college is now located east of Jack Trice Stadium, it used to be at the intersection of Stange and Pammel Dr. It was relocated in 1976(?). Just south of Jack Trice is Reiman Botantical Gardens opened in 1995. The Memorial Union has a south entrance that is very nice and the inside of the union has been remodeled. Since 1970, the part of campus that has changed the most is the west side. From the north side of Friley north along Bissell Road are 6 to 8 new buildings, mainly engineering. Pammel Court Quonset huts no longer exist and have been replaced by apartment style housing on one side of Stange (east) and non-academic buildings on the other side (west). Just west of Central Campus is the West Quad located between Beardshear and Marston with the north end of the quad being Parks Library (large addition made in 1983) and the south end being 'Alumni Hall'. It used to have a couple Quonset huts and a parking lot for the library. Now it is a very nice green quad. In addition to the above lots of other changes have happened. You for sure should drive around campus but there is road construction on Morrill Road between the Library and Lebaron - which is being demolished - so to access central campus you will need to take Union Drive from the north side of the Union and drive north.

Off Campus, if you take University (formerly Elwood Drive) south under US 30, to the left (east) is the ISU Research Park and to the right (west) will be a 'new' residential area ('new' since 1970). South Duff has been heavily commercialized. Downtown Ames is a very nice historic downtown area. Going further north on Duff, Mary Greeley has expanded many times since 1970. Continuing north on Duff will take you to Duff and Grand intersection. From that intersection, to the left (south) is North Grand Mall constructed in 1971, and to the north is a Wal Mart and another small retail area. If you turn north on Grand and drive down the hill on the left (west) will be Ada Hayden Heritage Park. It is Ames best municipal park in my opinion. It used to be Hallet's Quarry back in the 1970's. It is a 437 acre park with two gravel pits turned lakes. The beginning of November you might see migrating ducks and geese on the lake. The last thing I will mention is that on the far east side of Ames between Dayton Road and Interstate 35 many large businesses and mfg facilities have been built.

Oh I forgot, Mortensen Road that used to be a gravel road that went from University (Elwood) west to South Dakota has had lots of development along it. And so has Stange Road going north from campus. Both are worth a short drive to see all the changes since 1970.

Enjoy you return trip to Ames.

YES! I remember those wine coolers fondly. Cheap and dirty. Although I remember them being served in beer mugs with, yes, lots of ice and yes, cheap jug wine. Who cared back then? No palate or pocketbook for Makers Mark.

Be sure to save extra time to drive around Ames, take Stange Road and drive north, you will be shocked by all the houses and development that Ames has undergone the past 10 years or so. If you drive towards Gilbert they have newer housing developments going up to the West and North of Ames out by the country club. Within 10 years you will not be able to tell when you are in Ames or Gilbert because of all the homes being built out to the North

It’s always fun to watch the opposing team bench when this happens. A lot of the time you can see it in their eyes a look that says, “well… we’re f**ked”.
That was my favorite part about Swag Surfin in 2020. More often than not the opposing sideline looked like they were just waiting to hit the showers.

Yes, since we are sharing our season tickets this season, I purchased GA parking for every game at the start of the season, and then just transfer the pass, just like the tickets to the other guy.

Log out of your account and then back in. My wife and daughter is going to the VB game tonight, and I have been trying all week to transfer the tickets to my wife's phone and its also grayed out. I gave up and told her to just take my phone to get in

We have two for tonight we won’t use due to flight delays. Do you/your wife want to try getting ours? Section 112, row 12, seats 1-2
