In the good old days we didn't have all this corporate sponsor ship like evil horrific Casey's. We had local small businesses like a bank that settled for 3.7 billion dollars admitting it massively defrauded the American people.

RIP America

Maybe I am in the minority, but to me this arena is a poor facility for basketball. It feels dark and the seats are not close to the court (especially on the ends) that it is hard to build excitement during the games.

I would much rather go to a basketball game in the old Barn than this facility (whatever they call it).

I've never been but it looks like such a flat atmosphere for about anything I've watched on TV.

The Barn was a real historic destination that had a certain feel to it. It was old but that was kind of the point.

And make you stand in line at the concessions to get your receipt...

After the tap function from your card doesn't work until the 3rd time.

'Yeah this machine is just having a bad day for some reason'.

--every Casey's counter employee anywhere

**This is the most 'if you know, you know' thread in quite a while.

There will be only one line in and you'll see the only 2 employees there 50 feet back BS'ing while the line continues to grow.

I've been to numerous NCAA tournament games and have experienced both good an bad as far as atmosphere goes. When Kentucky and Indiana played in the second round the first year Des Moines hosted it was absolutely electric in there. Part of the reason the environments have been kind of stale is matchups/blowouts.

I'm indifferent, but guessing people still refer to it as "The Well".
I'm indifferent as well. It's just going from one corporate name to another.

What's surprising to me in this thread is the number of people who cling to wanting to call it "Wells Fargo Arena." I understand if it's a local person who made an impact, or local group, or honored local groups of people like "Veterans Memorial" did, etc.; it makes sense if people have an attachment to that. But to attach to wanting to call it the "Well" or Wells Fargo Arena seems odd to me. At least this is a local corporation that started in Iowa and not a big, faceless multi-state corporation headquartered out of state.

Edit: there's also already a Wells Fargo Center in Philly. So, it's not like WFA is even unique. I'm still pretty indifferent, but if I had to choose, I suppose having the local corporation get naming rights is preferred to the out of state banking behemoth.

It is also changing names in 2025 as Wells Fargo didn't renew that naming contract. It was called other things in the past from what I can gather.

glad its an Iowa company with naming rights, i guess
Yeah, Target Center is definitely an anomoly. The same naming rights partner since the building opened over 30 years ago.

There aren't a whole lot of those out there that have been stable

United Center is the only other one that comes to mind.

SoFi apparently bought 50 years of naming rights but who knows how many times they'll merge/be acquired in that time.

Yeah, I think the United Center deal is a 20 year deal. Target renewed their deal with Target Center a few years ago and it is almost 35 years old. It is the longest naming rights partnership in American professional sports.
