Key to the game is honestly the first half of the first half. Survive that and you're in the game the rest of the way. Let them go scorched earth and get down double digits early, you're screwed.
100%. If you can "survive" the first 10 minutes against Iowa they usually fold. If they are able to build up an early lead they are very hard to come back on because they score they typically score at a high clip. This should be a game where we don't settle. Our guards should absolutely abuse Iowa's.

I could see him as a 3 point specialist in the NBA that gets spot minutes in circumstantial situations, but I don't see him as big minutes guy.

He's a solid shooter and a good player in the right system. He'd have done really well on a Hoiberg team. Compared to everyone on TJ's team, he is Charmin soft, though.

He may get a shot, but Matt Thomas defends way better and couldn’t stick.

Ignore this board’s nba bashing, poor defenders don’t get NBA minutes unless they are an all star on offense. Georges became a radically better defender or he wouldn’t have stuck.

As for the list. It’s not like they can put all our key guys in top 50.

The last several teams that got boat raced in Carver just didn't have mental toughness like this group has. I still like our chances to pound them.
Yeah this year's team, especially with who we bring back at the guard position, are more capable to go anywhere in the country and win. Two years ago, we had one guy that started in that game that started the year before, and that was Kunc. Caleb started and Gabe came off the bench. You then had Lipsey as a freshman and Holmes and Osun who were newcomers.

It's an entirely different scenario. But we'll see. Iowa can get red hot playing at home.

Last year it was our posts that destroyed them.

Having RJ Davis as #2 seems too high. He put up numbers but I wouldn't put him that high in terms of just best players. Flagg is going to be an absolute monster in CBB this year. I think he is one guy this year that could single handedly take a team to the Final Four.

Other thoughts on this list and other player ranking lists. Smith from Purdue is way too high. Nice player, but benefited from having a giant planet on the interior with the gravity pull of a black hole.

Big 12 guard play is really good. Caleb Love I thought improved in Zona. Baylor has great guards and Edgecombe is going to be their next great Freshman guard, . ISU obviously has a three headed monster at guard. I think KU upgraded their guards. Houston has good guards.
I'm not going to claim to have deep knowledge of Davis, but it seems like in the games I've watched, he is a bit mercurial in that he absolutely took over the game at times, but disappeared at others. Definitely seems like a top 15-20 player, but 2 does seem high.

I don't know why we'd care about Sandfort so much.

We'll see him once in November. Big deal. We'll see Johni Broome, too, a MUCH better player. We'll also see Kam Jones (#11 on the list) when Marquette rolls into Hilton.

I'm not even mentioning the UNC/Michigan St./etc. guys in the second and third Maui games.

But we'll see guys like this at least once maybe twice maybe thrice or even FOUR times...

Hunter Dickinson
Caleb Love
VJ Edgecombe
LJ Cryer
Norchad Omier
AJ Storr
J'Wan Roberts
Tucker DeVries
Dajuan Harris, Jr.
Jeremy Roach

...all of which are better than Sandfort and we'll play in conference games/in March or even April.

Not with that attitude.

Ignoring the conference guys, we pay attention because those are the fans we actually interact with around here. All 38 of them for Iowa basketball.

There is no way Love is a top 10 player. I don’t think he is even a top 50 player

Iowa has a decent team this year. Sanfort, Dix, and Freeman are good players. I really like Dix. It is really hard for a guard to shoot 55% overall and 40% plus from 3 pts.
