Blowing an 18 point lead is very very bad. I don't really care that it's vs a F4 quality team to be honest. Showed some things but that second half is hard to swallow while also trying to talk about how good this team is
yeah, i get all the 'we only lost by 2 to a top 5 team' takes, but the story here is really two. A half where we could beat any team in the country, and a half where we'd be seeing an early exit from the NCAA tournament. Getting outscored 50-32 in the second half is pretty disastrous by any measure. People were rightly elated by the first half performance, but should be equally down on the second half performance.

There is absolutely no shot a loss to an auburn team who was favored over us, pushes us to a 3/4 seed. Obviously have to win conference games but 0% chance this game alone changed our seeding that much
That’s not what I meant, obviously there’s a whole season left but what I was trying to say is that big wins like this make up for inevitable losses later in the season. 28-8 with a win over Auburn looks better than 27-9 with a loss tonight, and that can be the difference in seeding

It doesn’t push us back, but it potentially stopped us from moving up a seed with an additional Q1 win on Selection Sunday.

Forgot about Watson. Obviously Heise must be doing ok in practice, because on the court I’d definitely take what we saw from Watson towards the end of last year versus what we have seen from Heise so far.
I do wonder. If Watson could maybe be a guy that could handle a stretch 4 like that for maybe a few minutes. Gosh we just got no answer for those guys. Most teams don't, but we really struggle with those guys. Will see I guess.

Unless auburn tanks due to unrest later this year. If they play like tonight, it won't be an issue though.

They had a bad start to the second half against their first really good opponent. If they make a habit of giving up big leads I'll be concerned, but it's basketball and this crap happens against good teams sometimes.

Yeah. I just dont get all the talk about "ah we only lost by 2, this team showed they belonged in the top 5"

Did you not watch them blow that? This team clearly has sky high potential, but there's a lot of glaring issues on display as well

To be fair Auburn hit some crazy difficult shots

We forced them to defend a dribble hand-off and that's it after standing around for 10 seconds. You should be hitting them with actions the whole time to see if you can get an easy back cut for a layup or someone lost in screens for a good look from distance from your desired shooters. We put all of our eggs in a basket that predictably got triple teamed.
We are saying the same thing, i think? I wish we'd have ran a real play with action, and scored when it was available.

I agree with you unfortunately games like this can be huge for seeding down the road in March. A win vs a loss tonight might end up being the difference between a 1/2 seed vs a 3/4 seed
Winning would have been better than losing, but this one game in Maui is not going to cause Iowa State to lose a seed line. If ISU wins the Big XII Regular Season, they will more than likely be a #01 seed. If they win the Big XII Regular Season AND the Big XII Tournament, they will definitely be a # 01 seed. Playing a tough as nails Auburn team in a buzzer beater game tonight will not hurt ISU at all.

It doesn’t hurt but goodness it could have helped. I think Auburn is legit. Beating them would have been huge - both for momentum now (potentially dominating the CBB narrative for a few days) but also would have looked fantastic on selection Sunday. THAT is why it is OK to be bummed out (i.e. missed opportunity).

I didn't have to read this post to know it was negative and over reacting...i just had to see Darius labeled it a "winner" And knew exactly what kind of post it was. Jfc.

My hope is they taste blood and the potential and realize they have to bring the hair on fire focus and intensity they did in the first half for all 40.

Everyone has things that should have them believing they can cut down nets at the final 4 and plenty to work on if they want to get there.

Not even silver lining. But might be better than a win for this team at this time. Had they pulled that out with how second half went, might not be the case.

I'm not sad about the loss from seeding...i am pretty bummed that this was probably the championship game. Win this, and wed likelybhave won maui, which is really cool
