Have no opinion on Campbell taking the UNC job. But, IMO that is a very attractive job as the UNC President & AD is going to give any new coach a lot of resources to succeed as UNC positions themselves for a jump to Big10 or SEC when there is another round of realignment.

Even if the next round of realignment is 5 years away, within the ACC there are only a couple other ACC schools that have similar financial resources going into an era when athletes are going to get paid. And one of those schools, FSU, is a disaster.

Regarding the 12 team playoff, the ACC might be the easiest path because the competitive balance in the ACC is not as good as Big12.

Lastly, Chapel Hill wouldn't be a bad area to live and should be a relatively easy area to recruit to as North Carolina and neighboring states produce a lot of football talent.
Stop trying to convince Matt to leave.:jimlad:

If Campbell leaves it will be the NFL or an upper tier MW job. Nothing else. I would also say it wouldn't shock me at all if his next move was more in a personnel role at the NFL level. He is highly regarded in that aspect of the game.
NFL makes no sense. He's pretty clear that his passion is molding young men. Maybe down the line.

A lot of these reporters probably haven’t even talked to Campbell, they just assume most coaches are always trying to find a, in their eyes, a better job. But unless they’ve talked to him, they probably don’t know much. Even if they talked to Campbell, he’d probably be very general and vague.

Would assume he goes nowhere until youngest is done with high school. Just don't know when that is.

I’ve been saying this for years.

Ohio State or Notre Dame
That is it.

Everything else is viewed only as a lateral move.

He hates Michigan.

Not a guess.
I think this post could be accurate. I would be worried about Mt Union than all these guesses by media. He may want to slow down someday and coach at his beginning point. Just my thoughts.

No idea if he would go to UNC or not...but it is more likely that he would take that job than it would be him leaving Ames for OSU or ND because he isn't getting hired from Iowa State to be the OSU or ND coach! That is not happening (unless he wins back to back national championships here)! Chapel Hill is an awesome campus...they have a ton of money and they will be a Big Ten school eventually. It would be a very attractive position for any up and coming coach. That said...I hope Matt Campbell is the HC for ISU for another 10+ years!

It’s their job to create clicks.
Exactly this. I’ve said this before, but it is 100% true. Minneapolis radio station was interviewing a former sports writer for the Star Tribune. A question was asked about writing articles for head coaching vacancies. The writer said the editor would come in, say you need to list 5 people. 1 must be a national brand name, 1 must be a local person, and pick 3 that you think would make sense.

These writers have ZERO knowledge of who actually will be the new coach; editors give them a framework and make them write something so people can be drawn to their paper/site

Personnel role? You think an NFL team will hire him as GM? Or that he’ll take a hefty pay cut to be a scout? Nothing about him screams NFL, which is pretty common for college coaches.

Agree, but it’s usually the same lazy list.

Do you know this absolutely? Long-time sports reporters have contacts with insiders, athletic department for sure but also outsiders with power.

Just sayin'. But not saying anything to Matt's name, it could be big donors are talking that way. We fans darn well know Matt won't entertain any conversation about other jobs until the season is over. Right?

Not a guess.

Hates Michigan?! Where'd you get that?

Not long after he arrived in Ames, it became clear that growing up, CMC's favorite college team was Michigan. The source for this? An ISU All-American who is close to the program.

Right?? Am I supposed to say ‘absolutely’ or maybe?
