Agree. If Brent Blum wants the job, he is the best fit. Cyclone through-and-through, but also describes the action well and is a sharp commentator. Probably also does a bit better job than Walters of trying to be objective and unbiased, and I appreciate that. Hah! Nice to have someone like Blum ready to go, but hope Walters stays a while longer.

Would love to see Chris and Blum take over for walters and Heft when they move on.
Respectfully disagree on that, even though it is worth considering when brainstorming on the first pass. Blum is great at play-by-play and seems the obvious choice for pXp, but I think you need someone who played ideally for color commentary. Chris is obviously a CycloneFanatic and legend in his own right, but maybe a player who is near or could come in for the games? Could be different color for basketball and football, by the way. Many programs do that.

Just brainstorming here, but maybe Seneca Wallace for football, or Bandhauer, or Bruns, or Harklau to pair with Blum in the future? I'm really not sure; seems like there's a longer list of options for football color commentary which makes sense given the team is about 7 times bigger. Men's basketball could be harder to find. Ideas? Edit: I would say its pretty obvious Blum for both Men's hoops and football PXP if he wants it, but not sure yet on color once Heft retires.

That's what is so amazing to me about Eric Heft. He played basketball in college, but he's also an excellent color guy for football - very knowledgeable about the game.

I met Eric once years ago and I told him that he has my fantasy job. He laughed and then told me that when you're driving home from Stillwater (OK) in the middle of a weeknight, it doesn't seem like much of a fantasy.

So thankful Eric is our color guy for both football and basketball!

Scott Christopherson would be a basketball name, but his schedule might not allow that

Glad he was able to fill in. I thought I'd seen somewhere that his role as head of We Will meant he couldn't do things like radio.

Blum mentioned that not that long ago, must have been a rule change recently or something

I personally don't like tuning in and knowing the score of the game just by the tone of the voice. I prefer someone that is more even keeled. I think Blum is very solid and enjoyable to listen to.

If Woody was football analyst I'm not sure he'd have time to finish his analogies between plays. Love the podcast with Mahoney though.

I listen to tons of them on varsity app now. Some are pretty bad.

The Kansas guy is like an SNL skit of how I’d make fun of a play by play guy.

Cincy’s guy sounds EXACTLY like Pete Taylor.
I’ve tuned into some where it definitely sounds like a student is doing play by play and a former player is the color.

I would like to see Jeff Woody get a shot at football games, he is so incredible at explaining things.

I'd have to give him another listen but I get Gopher football coach vibes when he talks.

It'll be someone from a mid-major with a strong pxp background that's done it on a consistent basis.

That's how Learfield rolls.

You'll be pissed at first and then realize the new guy is pretty damn good.
As long as it's not some guy who tries to emulate the golden age of radio voice like Dolphin. I listened to some of the Kansas/Colorado football game on Varsity Sports (Learfield) and the Buffs PxP guy did that too. It just doesn't translate. Need a guy who has some existing connection to the AD IMO. Basically someone who is a fan but a professional (even if from a very small market). We've been spoiled with Pete and John (and Heft) hitting exactly that mark.
