Other than Campbell, who would never do it, who from Iowa State would be heard more? He’s the perfect person to make a case for ISU in my opinion. He’s not the right person to do that though. And ISU isn’t the right school to call out Indiana or SMU. We didn’t play the other three 2-loss conference teams either. It comes off as hypocritical
It’s neat how they kept ASU and ISU well behind Boise and moved UNLV up so the Broncos can grab that elusive top 20 win… It’s all f*cking scripted.
It’s already happening. “Look over here at these Top 25 wins! Don’t look under the rug at those losses to Vandy and Oklahoma, those don’t matter … but SMU couldn’t even win the ACC title game, how can we put them in over this powerhouse 6th-place SEC team?”Find some narrative on why Bama is more worthy than SMU and trot out their ESPN figureheads to bang the drum.
Give me south bend. If northern IL can win there so can weI think we need to accept were likely going to South Bend or Happy Valley. Buckle up. (if we even win this weekend)
I don’t think anyone at ISU should. Yormark should. If Jaimie has to say something, why not go after Alabama, which is the real travesty.Other than Campbell, who would never do it, who from Iowa State would be heard more? He’s the perfect person to make a case for ISU in my opinion.
And I take Pollard’s comments as bigger picture than just picking on a few teams that are ahead of us. He was on the basketball selection committee and knows a thing or two about selecting teams for a national championship tournament. He’s pointing out the inherent flaws in the current CFP system, which is a complete sham. The more people in influential positions that point this out, the better chance of some change. I still believe there is little hope that anything will change for the better in college football, but saying something is better than being silent and just accepting it.
Every playoff prediction I’ve seen since Sunday has ASU winning…ESPN currently has Arizona State as the place holder for their bracket watch graphic. They have drawn their allegiance.
I’d like to think this is true. While UNLV beating a top 10 team seems like a possible setup for a big jump … remember UNLV already lost to Boise State once. Beating them for the MWC title just means they went 1-1 against them, hardly an argument for a 6 or 7 spot jump. What I think will happen
- If Clemson wins convincingly and B12 title is a close game, Clemson will jump the B12 winner
- If the opposite of that happens, B12 winner will beat out the ACC for a bye
- If UNLV beats Boise, they will not jump the B12 or ACC for a bye in any scenario
- SMU is in win or lose. They win, Bama gets last at-large. If Clemson wins, SMU gets the last at-large
I don't entirely disagree but punching down at another school's AD on social media isn't going to do anything in terms of swaying the committee.Should Big 12 just take it? Committee has our teams 7 spots lower than AP. Other three major conferences all higher than they are in the AP.
Just spread our cheeks and enjoy?
Imagine if the committee had practically no big ten presence and dropped all your teams 2 spots on average from the AP position.
F this committee. The Big 12 already got screwed beyond belief in 2014, possibly our best team in 4 team playoff era. There was nothing wrong with the BCS formula.
Why does the big 12 have to be perfect when others can lose to Vandy and NIU?!?!Iowa State's two losses were not due to the schedule being too tough. If they only lost one of the games, they would be ranked ahead of Boise for sure and in the same neighborhood as S.M.U. and Indiana (who has at least pummelled teams).
Point is that Jamie likes to whine on twitter, when he could choose a different method. If S.M.U., Indiana and Boise have it so easy, give 'em a call and ask them to come out and play! Win-Win for us all.
Clemson really doesn’t have one single signature win this year. Even Iowa State beat pretty good teams in Kansas State, Baylor, and at Iowa … Clemson’s best win is, what, Pittsburgh? Virginia Tech?Note how Clemson is way behind Big 12 in AP poll but committee has them in position to jump big 12 winner should they beat SMU. 6 spot differential, highest of any team easily.
Guys, guys, all the brackets they put out are simply going by the committee ranking. The highest-ranked team gets the benefit of the doubt. That’s why they all have Arizona State in as Big XII champion. It’s not a prediction of the game, it’s just using the rankings.Every playoff prediction I’ve seen since Sunday has ASU winning…
The Big 12 doesn't need to be perfect. I was pointing out that S.M.U., Indiana and Boise are ranked ahead of ISU because of 1 loss instead of 2, and ISU's 2 losses were not due to the schedule being too tough. If ISU was a 1 loss team, they would probably in the Top 10 right now too instead of at #16.Why does the big 12 have to be perfect when others can lose to Vandy and NIU?!?!
This is a direct product of the new super leagues. I said it on an earlier thread but this is why the BCS formula is flawed now too. The spread of scheduling parity within each conference is much wider than it used to be. Plus the BCS formula loved SOS which is worthless when you are simply rewarding a team for getting housed by a top team and the piling up wins against soft teams.Yet another way to scratch your head over some if what the committee sees. What’s interesting is the real lack of good wins among some ranked teams (Indiana, SMU, Miami, Clemson, even Penn State, Notre Dame and Texas really haven’t beat anybody):
1. OREGON
2. TEXAS
- Losses: None
- Best wins: Ohio State, Boise State (?)
3. PENN STATE
- Losses: Georgia (good loss)
- Best wins: Texas A&M? Florida?
4. NOTRE DAME
- Losses: Ohio State (good loss)
- Best wins: USC? Illinois? They just beat Minnesota by one point
5. GEORGIA
- Losses: Northern Illinois (terrible loss)
- Best wins: Army? Texas A&M? USC?
6. OHIO STATE
- Losses: Alabama (good loss), Ole Miss
- Best wins: Texas, Tennessee, Clemson
7. TENNESSEE
- Losses: Oregon (good loss), Michigan (somewhat bad loss)
- Best wins: Penn State, Indiana
8. SMU
- Losses: Georgia (good loss), Arkansas (bad loss)
- Best wins: Alabama
9. INDIANA
- Losses: BYU
- Best wins: Louisville? Duke?
10. BOISE STATE
- Losses: Ohio State (good loss)
- Best wins: Michigan? Nebraska?
11. ALABAMA
- Losses: Oregon (good loss)
- Best wins: UNLV
12. MIAMI
- Losses: Vanderbilt (bad loss), Tennessee (good loss), Oklahoma (bad loss)
- Best wins: Georgia, South Carolina
13. OLE MISS
- Losses: Georgia Tech (not that good), Syracuse (also not a good loss)
- Best wins: Louisville? Duke? Florida? Only an unexplainable video overturn saved them against Virginia Tech, and an uncalled targeting saved them against Cal
14. SOUTH CAROLINA
- Losses: Kentucky (bad loss), LSU, Florida
- Best wins: Georgia, South Carolina
15. ARIZONA STATE
- Losses: Alabama (good loss), Ole Miss (pretty good loss), LSU
- Best wins: Clemson, Texas A&M?
16. IOWA STATE
- Losses: Texas Tech (not a good loss), BYU (pretty good loss)
- Best wins: Kansas State, Kansas?
17. CLEMSON
- Losses: Texas Tech (not a good loss), Kansas (also not good)
- Best wins: Kansas State, Iowa, Baylor?
18. BYU
- Losses: Georgia (good loss), South Carolina (good loss), Louisville
- Best wins: Pittsburgh? Virginia Tech?
- Losses: Arizona State (pretty good), Kansas (not so good)
- Best wins: SMU, Kansas State, Baylor?
Number 3 is what I’m most confident about. I do not see UNLV jumping a power conference champion. But as you say, never say never with these doofusesI’d like to think this is true. While UNLV beating a top 10 team seems like a possible setup for a big jump … remember UNLV already lost to Boise State once. Beating them for the MWC title just means they went 1-1 against them, hardly an argument for a 6 or 7 spot jump.
Then again, these same doofuses had Tulane ranked in between the top two Big XII teams a week ago, so what they’re gonna do is completely up in the air.
SOS is a sham when you only have 12 data points. Simply losing to a good team shouldn’t be a resume builder.I don’t think anyone at ISU should. Yormark should. If Jaimie has to say something, why not go after Alabama, which is the real travesty.
Not against other teams like ISU for their SOS. When our SOS is low too and we also dodged the other top teams in our conference.

I don't think it is a total sham, but you are right about one game making a huge difference in SOS like Ohio State did for Indiana. Of course, Purdue offset that. Perhaps, a good way of doing a SOS with winning percentage it to drop the best and worst record of the 12 opponents. Also, only games vs. FBS teams should count. If a team is 8-4 with one win over an FCS team, that should only be counted as 7-4 IMO, and the record of the FCS team should just be dropped altogether.SOS is a sham when you only have 12 data points. Simply losing to a good team shouldn’t be a resume builder.
