Agree
Although eventually $ may take a toll on B12 and ACC.
the sec may have money, but it's chump change alongside what the Mormons have if they decide to push the BYU brand. i read somewhere they have a 264-billion-dollar war chest that could be tapped for NIL.

That figure is the entire value of the LDS. Obviously, it would only take a fraction of a percent of that to become dominant in NIL, but 1) that only benefits 1 Big XII school and 2) other schools have billionaires willing to back them, too (see: Michigan).

Houston/ISU/Tennessee/Auburn aren't separated by a lot. Auburn beat us and UH by 2, Tennessee, I'm not sure who their marquee wins are. They've yet to beat a currently ranked opponent.

Honestly, I think Iowa State and Auburn should both be ahead of Tennessee. The Vols are getting a lot mileage out of their Q3 wins... Iowa State has played one more Q1 game too and our only loss is to the #1 NET team on a freaking tip in. I'm really struggling with NET this year. It's dumb how voters just move Tennessee up because they are undefeated but yeah, their resume doesn't have a major win on it.

I've heard a lot of talk of the SEC getting 10 teams into the dance which seems crazy to me. As much crap as Big 12 teams got about their OOC SOS last year I just want to point out that the SEC only has 8/16 teams with an KP OOC SOS above 197. The Big 12 has 11/16 teams above that mark.

They are a great conference this year, but the entire bottom half of that conference clearly hasn't been challenged.

I'll be shocked if the SEC has less than 12 teams in the tourney - they've dominated this year and deserve their accolades.

That said, none of this conference ranking talk really matters, its just for the stats geeks/die hard fans.

Narratives will change quickly during the tourney, and that's what matters most.

Yeah, it may happen but it would be crazy to be shocked if it doesn't. The bottom half of the conference has played weak OOC schedules (Oklahoma has the 12th SEC OOC SOS at 255) and 12 teams would be unprecedented. The record is the Big East in 2011 when they got 11/16 teams in to the dance.

Didn't read the whole thread.

But, if it's like football, the preseason expectations are all that matters and that expectation is set no matter what happens in the games.

Big 12 is best.

SEC was 29-4 vs ACC (it's similar to Big 12 vs Big East). They omit the fact a majority of the ACC is garbage this year.

The quant numbers aren't great, not going to argue, but OU will not be punished for beating providence, arizona, louisville, georgia tech, okie state, and michigan in the non-conf with the only GT at home.

SEC has 14 teams top 50 in the NET, 9 in the top 25, and 15 in the top 75. If "who you beat" still matters, SEC will have a zillion quad one games over the next 2 months.

The SEC is like the Secretariat of non-conf hoops - just an historic demolishing of the competition never seen before.

This year it’s the SEC. For the past 5-6 years it’s been the Big 12. Next year it could be the ACC or the Big East. It can literally change year to year.
Going back like the last decade, the Big 12 has been the best conference. #1 most of those years, 3rd one year and 2nd a couple but overall, clearly #1. I think SEC is a clear #1 this year so I agree with you. We'll see if this is a one off or not. I don't anticipate the Big 12 to spiral backwards.

Way up there
What shocks me more than anything is the steady decline of the ACC over the years.
They sold their soul for football. It doesn't get talked about with realignment but the ACC raiding the Big East football schools 20 years ago started it all and it changed that league forever. Basketball also took a hit last year with their latest 3 additions. Basketball is an afterthought to realignment but it's landscape has been drastically changed by it. ACC basketball has been slowly chipped away at over the last two decades of these changes. Its impacted all the p4 this year.

The Big 12 is hurt by Arizona not being that good, the other 3 PAC schools aren't good either but Arizona at its typical level would go a long ways to cover those schools up.

The SEC added two really solid basketball schools. OU/UT aren't amazing but they are tournament quality teams most years.

Big Ten was probably the biggest bball winner in realignment this time around.

You think the Mormon church will spend their entire savings on BYU athletics? What?
