Watching NCAA tournement games it's painfully obvious where our MBB shortcoming is: we don't have the talent to break down a defense man on man, outside of CB, of course. Do we have any hope of guard play that can create offense by penetrating, shooting, or kicking back out to an open jump shooter? Looks like we need to recruit quick athletic offensive kids and teach them to play defense.

Completely agree, hope Colvin and Gilstrap can give us some of that.

I agree, but I also see a few other areas where other teams have exploited us. We do not move well at all without the ball. How many times have we seen DG try to dribble around with 4 guys watching. We also dribble into corners/traps and pick the ball up.

That being said, these guys always seemed to play hard and I'll take a lower talent team that tries over a super talent team that underachieves. These guys seem to want it.

I feel there will be a fairly different "feel" on the court next season. Gilstrap looks like a big time player/athlete that will give us more slashing abilities. I haven't seen Colvin play, but people seem to praise him as a good one. IMO, Buckley, Colvin, and Gilstrap are going to give us a tenacity (that's right, I said tenacity) that we lacked this year. Adding Dendy to the lineup w/Brackins may be the answer to our prayers. I guess we'll see what plays out. I'm sure we will all be wrong by next season.

The thing I notice is the tournament teams have multidimensional players, not a team full of one dimensional guys. Guys have the ability to rebound, handle the ball, and shoot....

I think Diante certainly has the ability to do so, but being the only threat to penetrate doesn't help. With a couple of other guys out there who can do that, it should help to put stress on the defenses and open up opportunities.

Point being he CAN play with the best of them, but needs consistency.

For some reason Oklahoma was determined to go over the top of screens, allowing Diante to get to the hole... Most other teams were content going under and daring him to shoot... I imagine they won't make the same mistake twice...

Yeah. I noticed the same thing. He sliced through them all day. Maybe that's why I think OU is weak on defense and won't make it to the final four.

I do agree we don't have multidimensional players. I firmly believe this team was one well-rounded wing away from being really good. We had that kid, but he chose to leave. DG has the ability to break down the D, but struggles to finish at times. He struggles to shoot the ball from 3 as well and that hurts his ability to drive. Lucca doesn't have the quickness to be a slasher. You look down the roster and we don't have a player who can shoot it from the outside and also put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. Some of the other things I have to say are a lot philosophy differences, which I don't feel is fair to discuss right now because it doesn't pertain to the conversation.

Obvious weakness for ISU the last 3 years, needs to improve dramatically or we will see the same brand of basketball repeated next year and so on. Dribble penetration is the key at getting 3 point shooters open and getting easy shots out of your post players.
