I just had a 14-50 outlet installed and use the mobile charger, it works great and was $250 total.
Personally I'd go with the 6-50 outlet which is a pretty common welder plug. Lots of EVSE options out there for that and it gives you that flexibility if you want to start burning wire in your free time.

Anyone have any experience with the BMW I4 or IX? I'm going to be in the market for a vehicle here in the next 6 months or so, and wonder if either of those are worth checking out
I met a guy at a charger who had what I think was an I4. He said he liked it so much that he had 2 of them. His job had him on the road 4 days a week so he drove it a lot.

I like the look of the I4. I'm going to have to take a test drive. I've also been trying to convince my wife that a M240i is actually a practical, daily driver. Not sure she's buying it though.

I’m driving about 200-250 miles a week and a level one charger at home has been fine (my L2 install is on the tricky side and just not worth it yet). My phev had already trained my mind to remember charging though, if I forgot all the time I’d probably wish to have level 2.

There’s a park where I dog walk daily with free level 2 and if I can get that twice a week I don’t have to plug in at home at all.

Unless someone is a 70+ mile a day driver or we’re talking about a huge ev truck battery I think home charging speed may be the most overblown concern.

Last night at 8:30 I was at 70% and plugged in, probably at 86% now (timed for cheap rate). I’d need to forget 3-4 nights in a row for it to be an issue and even then I could go pay at neighborhood fast charger in a pinch if I was somehow below 20%. This is only with level one regular 110v wall socket, if I had level 2 this would be even less of a concern.
How many amps does it draw on that 110v circuit? I will sometimes trip the breaker with a milkhouse heater if I am working for a long time in the garage in the winter and someone else starts anything with much of a draw. There is too much on the garage circuit.

I think my garage wiring was an afterthought because I have one bedroom and a bathroom that will go down when it gets tripped in the garage.

Now that I think about it, it probably wasn't the garage that was the afterthought. It is clear that the original homeowners finished the level with that BR and bath on their own after purchase. The garage was probably on that circuit first.

I'm afraid I am going to have to pull in a larger service if I do anything more than 110 for a future EV. My only hope is there is a breaker marked "freezer" in my breaker box. I don't know where that goes. It might be hidden behind some crap in the front of my garage that hasn't been moved since we moved in 20 years ago.

My wife's bolt can select either an 8 or 12 amp draw off of 120v

For anyone near Denver…$49/month lease. I have a 2021 Leaf and it’s great. The SV is the model with the 215 mile range. My S has a range of 160 miles.

I had a m235i. Loved that little car and it was surprisingly reliable.

I just had my Ford charge station pro installed today. When connected, it charges my Lightning at 10.2 KwH which is so much better than the 1.2 KwH off a 110 outlet.

Do you charge at full speed always? Or is it better on the battery to slow charge when you can?

I'm very new to this, but I'm not sure the 10.2 KwH is really fully speed. I went to an Electrify America station recently that peaked at 200 KwH.
Tesla I believe has 350 kwH chargers.

The vehicle will sometimes be the limiter. I think our Mach E can only charge at 150 KwH max. The range in which it does that is fairly small too (basically the battery has to be empty).

Nitpicking a bit, but isn’t kwH a measure of total energy capacity and not rate? Wouldn’t they be just kW chargers?

Sorry, years of unit conversions and balencing have ruined me forever to worry about such things.

I agree and misspoke. But I would still think there has to be a time component to how quickly that wattage is delivered.

I need a truck with an extended bed for work. I won’t be buying that ugly looking truck thing that’s for sure. I’m hoping to get at least another 3 years out of my 2019 Nissan XL diesel. After that, I’ll see what advancements have been made. I’m not a, screw electric! Or fossil fuels only! I’m for advancements and if something works for me that is electric, so be it.
