My tone was fine. I literally said nearly the entire game was very good. However, the play selection that I mentioned could have very easily cost us the game.

Any perceived tone after that was from being attacked and "dumbed".

See. Tone here is fine. Balanced and measured, if not inaccurate.

That’s not an accurate comparison.

This would be like if your son made a put back layup with 10 seconds to take the lead and the other team had their backup PG in who couldn’t dribble the ball up the court.

It's the best I could do to argue against the "we won and that's all that matters" crowd. I think a more accurate comparison would be a contested 8-foot jumper. But that's not what happened, so I just went with what actually happened instead.

Offense:

• Great plan, scheme and play design by Mouse
• Didn’t agree with some of the goal to go calls at the end of game, particularly not running the ball but they got in
• The TD pass to Hansen was a thing of beauty
• Excited we have more years of Buhr
• Sama is two steps “too fast” or too soon from his 13 yard run being a 70 yard td. Hoping he devours film and learns to love the hips of his lead blockers
• Is Alston a potential dude?
• It’s time to officially give Hansen his propers. He’s a legit back.

Defense

• Cooper Ebel was outstanding
• Thought Lovett and James were solid

Officiating

• There were 2-3 more unnecessary roughness/late hits missed on daU
• How was a rb pointing at our defender for 10 yards then 5 more seconds in the end zone not taunting?

All I could think about was the “high step” penalty that eliminated a TD for us…

Yep. I told my buddy I was watching the game with... there's a lot of ISU fans that are not happy about that.

And then tv showed the ref talking with that RB as he went off the field. I figure it was probably a warning.

After review, I think Jaylin Noel should have been Co-MVP. Maybe not in the traditional way the media makes the selection but in the way Cyclone fans that pay attention know who was money in this game. He could have sat out, he had a 100 yard game, made a fantastic key catch on the sideline on the winning drive and, most importantly, said from day one he was playing in the game to go out the right way. If he hadn’t set the tone and then followed through by backing up his talk, I question if we win. He showed a lot of quality in his final game and is my MVP.

Looking back a day later

There is absolutely no doubt the Pop Tarts Bowl will replace the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta and Orange Bowls in importance to college football.

This sport is trying to suck the fun out of college athletics in the name of money.

We need this bowl. We need Keggy. We need FUN

My 8 year old son had what was no-doubtedly his best bball game the other night. So much so, that he decided to throw up a half court shot with 22 seconds left, down 1. It somehow went in, and his team held on to win by 2.

Did we celebrate the made shot? Yup.
Did we celebrate the win? Absolutely.
Did his coach have a conversation with him about making better decisions? Yes, and I 100% supported that conversation.

It's great to win. It's also great to understand there are mistakes made even in a win, and other decisions could have been made to put the team in an even better position to win. Mouser called a great game. We won. Go Cyclones.

You and him will both remember that shot for a long time. What a great story

I’ll go with the 90% good commentary. The first and second down play calls at the goal line were beyond mind boggling. Hes done this before where his calls get “cute” and in the Texas Tech game it cost us dearly.

I see it with other teams too and wonder if there's some analytics out there in the coaching world driving the decision to run a double fake hand off counter inside pitch to a guy that hasn't even touched the ball all game.

Ward was 12 of 19 for 190 yards with 3 TDs and 10 yard average. Williams was 5 of 14 for 26 yards and 0 TD's and 1.9 yard average. There was a vast difference between the two.

I agree completely. That's why I can't believe others disagree with me when we were forced to convert a 4th down without even managing to make them use multiple timeouts.

Let’s put it this way- Miami fans were very happy to see us passing in that situation. Arguably, Miami should have let us score if we ran the ball, but given the officiating crew’s propensity to spot the ball a yard short of actual, they nearly had it

It's a smaller ball, slightly smaller court, and a 9 foot hoop. And if you've ever been to a practice (specifically the 10 minutes beforehand when they are supposed to be taking warmup shots) you'd see that not only can many get it to the hoop, some can impressively overshoot it.

I’m watching it again this morning. They let Miami taunt our guys all game long. Also, noticed on the first touchdown for burkle they tossed him to the ground well after he caught the ball. **** Miami! Also I hope Freyler is going to be ok.

On the Burkle touchdown, the official must have been distracted by the giant Pop Tarts.

Watching Rocco getting the bowl MVP award after the game was almost a repeat of Brock after the Fiesta Bowl. Both guys holding up their trophy and yelling “Let’s go!” Interesting coincidence.
