Very rarely do I think a take your ball and go home approach is best, but that really should be the approach in that situation. It's a safety rule for a reason and if officials aren't going to ensure safety with the tools they now have (rules and review process), you can't have players on the field. That call was so bad it casts doubt on the integrity of the game.
