Here's an idea. Sign him to a lifetime contract and pay him Top 5 money. Buyout 50 Mil. Stop messing around with this.
I am guessing your comment is hyperbole, but ISU would (and should) never propose this.

Also, a contract still needs to be agreed upon by both sides. Campbell, smartly, would also never agree to this either.

Didn't see this posted. Sorry if I missed it. I have heard from several people today that Campbell turned down an interview with the NY Jets.

We always hear about about all the job possibilities getting floated around and how coach is going to leave asap....nice to hear this news. Campbell for governor!

I enjoyed this version, written as if the Jets were, say, Toledo...or some MAC or AAC team

The Jets, who recently fired former Temple defensive back and Grambling State defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, must find a coach willing to compete at a beleaguered program shy on winning history and facilities funding. The Jets don’t even have their own campus stadium, forced to share a building with the New York Giants of New Jersey, and haven’t played for a national championship since 1968.

Imagine having a new extension on a contract at a place with a customized program you built from scratch over 9 years and then....consider going to the Jets.

This is the fake newsiest of the fake news I've seen in a while.

That would be a bad hire... so the Jets will probably do it. ;)

I can't see CMC being a good NFL head coach, but I guess you never know? "Teaching" 18-22 year olds seems to be his wheelhouse IMO... not NFL players.

Agreed. He doesn’t seem like an X‘s and O’s type coach that’s needed in the NFL. He’s the perfect college coach that thrives on team and emotion.

I don’t even know how he’d do in a top P2 college team when you have to deal with highly paid divas. He’d probably sit a $2M WR because he didn’t like his attitude and the booster that provided that $2M won’t be happy.

Question is - how does he feel about the new world of NIL and the ever changing landscape of NCAA?
Would love for him to be the guy that keeps us going to and eventually winning Big12 championships. But you just never know.

That's fair.

There are college jobs where that would be less an issue than at a place like ISU. In my opinion though there's as much difference between college and NFL head coaching and being a garbage truck driver and F1 driver. It's possible you can move between the positions but they are totally different jobs.

It sounded like the Jets interviewed Rex Ryan for the job, correct? If so, that's all you need to know about the Jets organization... it's worthless.

No. The Jets aren’t worthless. They provide great value for coaches of other teams to threaten players. “Step it up or I’ll send you to the Jets” has an impact. Plus, they provide an opportunity for young QBs to start out their career and excel elsewhere after the Jets have given up on them.

Rez Ryan took them to back to back afc championship games so he has a good history there. I think Vrabel is a more likely hire though.

It's not an accident that a lot of successful college coaches have completely flopped in the pros. They didn't stop being good coaches - it's a different skill set in the pros.

College you are the CEO, the main motivator, a teacher, therapist, etc. - a lot of hats. NFL coaches really just need to be good managers. Pro athletes don't have any patience for the micromanager types you get in college.

And I don't understand why NFL teams continue to think they can hire the up and coming college coach and it will magically work better for them. The best NFL coaches are guys that paid their dues and worked their way up through various assistant jobs. Matt LaFleur and Kevin O'Connell are good current examples.
