I would agree if he wasn’t a 7’1” 18 year old. He doesn’t need to move like a smaller guy, he just needs to be able to use his length to offset lack of foot speed. He will figure it out with Green’s help.
Bball isn’t what it used to be. Generally if you aren’t contributing in a couple years, you are replaced. I don’t think time is JT’s friend.

TJ convinced Fish to come back this year after he entered the portal. I don't think anyone on this roster is so untalented that TJ going to run them off, as long as the guys are putting in the work.

Seven footers are the exception. He needs to decide if he’s developing. Otherwise yes he should drop a level.

There is also not a lot of use in running off guys at the end of the bench. Unless you are expecting massive roster turnover.

In most programs, no one past 8 is getting any significant minutes. You need talented players willing to accept their role and compete in practice.

Agree. If he doesn't contribute a lot next year he'll be another Watson. Same with Nojus.

There is a lot of value in having the end of the bench not be a revolving door. Having guys who are familiar with the routines and are strengthening the culture is a must for programs like this one.

And I have no doubt that Watson, Fish, and JT are huge in practice to get the core rotation players ready each and every week.

CBB coaches have tunnel vision sometimes. It HAS to be the same 8 guys every game. Doesn’t matter if a guy is 0-10 shooting, has 8 turnovers, has a sprained shoulder, or has 4 fouls, he is not coming out of the game.

I’m not sure it’s tunnel vision as much as it is they’re looking at a much bigger body of work than we are as fans.

For example, if Jones or Milan went 0-10 in a game that is an absolute anomaly. They’re still going to be encouraged to take the next open look they get.

But they do come out. It's not a 5-man rotation. TJ (and all good coaches) realizes when a lineup is working, or not, and when a player is on, or isn't.

However, for example, in ISU's case, if Gilbert has missed a few shots, he's not sitting the bench.

Who all came back? Were Fizer and Tinsley there?

Neither of them were there unfortunately. No Rancik either. I think most of the rest of the players from the 2000 and 2001 teams were there.

You can find some recordings of it on Twitter. I don't see anything official on ISU's socials yet.
I'm hoping to see something more official on this reunion from ISU, recoding the event. And did they try I wonder, to get some face time with Marcus and Jamaal, since they couldn't make it back?

The Rock-et man, of course.

A little tongue 'n cheek, as it is not quite his year. But I don't think JT would embarrass himself if called upon for a few minutes here and there. Next year he will be part of the offense, and hopefully his defense is improving. Practicing against Jackson, Jefferson, Milan, and Chatfield will for sure help his development.
With some foul trouble starting to brew the other day, we saw more of the smaller line-up with either Chatfield or Jefferson at the five and Milan at the four. Often Heise subs out Milan, but they shared the flour a good bit the other day. I bet there will be games in the conference that are called tighter and we have more foul trouble so will be interesting to see how deep in the bench TJ goes.

One of the great things about beating a ranked Baylor team is that it insures yet another week of being ranked #3 in the nation. I'm not sure how long we've been holding onto this ranking, but I'm guessing it's been about a month or so.

As stupid as rankings can be, they certainly influence public perception. The longer we remain at this lofty perch, the more respect we'll gain nationally and the higher our seeding will be in the dance.

Jackson finished with 3, Jefferson and Chatfield with 2. ISU was really not in foul trouble. The announcers were making a deal about having 2 fouls, which is pre-mature. They might have been hunting for something to say, because the game was not competitive

Jackson and Chatfield not going to play more than 25mins so going to be hard for them to really be in trouble. I don't think there will be many times TJ will have to go deeper than 8 baring injury

Agreed. There is only so much foul trouble you can get into when playing that many minutes.

And to your point, the number of fouls tells only half the story. Picking up your second in first ten minutes is very different than at the end of the first half or beginning of the second.

I keep watching the highlights. We are a fun team to watch. This game we added some 2-man game between heise and Jefferson and the lob to Chatfield. So much fun!
I was afraid they were going to call goaltending on that lob. The one thing ISU does not have is any high fliers

Has been a while since we’ve had one. Ward the obvious one in recent years. When was last before that?
