Ha. I was just about to post the same. My first job out of college I had three coworkers that were new grads as well and those guys wanted to go to Taco Bell all the freaking time.
I lived right by the TB in Ames during college. It’s now a Dunkin.

I was a broke college student who walked by a TB twice a day and still never ate there.

Panera Bread is the worst. Breads are stale, coffee is weak, prices are too high
Does PB also request a tip at checkout like McAlasters does?

Nothing irritates me more than when I go to a fast food place, order at the counter, and the first thing that pops up is a tip request. Then it takes multiple clicks to cancel out the tip screen, because the default is to tip.

Tipping is out of control. I remember when 10% was a good tip, now if its not 20% you are a cheapskate. That with the price of the meal skyrocketing. Being tipping is a percentage of the cost of the meal, then the percentage should have stayed the same as the price of said meal has went up, because with that increase in cost the tip also increases. ie. 10% of a $20 meal today, is 4 times what 10% of a $5 meal was, but the idea now is you should also increase the percentage too.

And dont tell me how they deserve this or that, or complain that places should pay more. Because a place like PB or McAlisters does already pay the average fast food rate, not the server lower rate. And tipping should be for good service not a requirement. Not to mention that no server I have ever met would rather go to a straight hourly rate vs tips, because they know they make far more with tips.

BKs Burgers are far superior to Culvers. But the other aspects Culvers is better.

You are right Culvers is better with freshness.

The problems I have with culvers.
1. Smashburgers SUCK. Talk about ruining a burger. Give me a nice thick juicy flame broiled burger, not a flat, overcooked, wafer thin, pancake of a smashed to hell, meat cracker. Gross.
2. Their need to oversalt everything. I dont want salt on everything. I dont want salt on cheese balls, onion rings etc.
3. Their claim that their cheese balls are Wisconsin style. Their cheese balls are nothing like true WI cheese curds, not even close. I remember going to old drive inns with the same frozen cheese balls decades ago. They are fine, for what they are, but they are not WI style curds in any form.
4. The way you have to order your burgers, I get it to a point, but sometimes I want to just order a signature burger, with unique sauce etc and not have to tell you every single thing I want on it etc.

Culvers is ok, but it is far from my go to, I pretty much choose anything else if there is other options. When I would rather have McDs vs Culvers that says something, because McDs is not good.

But in the DM area if there is a BBops near I choose that for burgers most of the time.
Culver’s burger is far superior to BK imo but I agree that the cheese balls suck. If you want one of the best smash burgers in Iowa try Lachele’s on Ingersoll in DM.

There is no such thing as "best" Smash burger, there is no such thing as a "good" Smash Burger. Smash burgers are garbage. Who in their right mind came up with smashing the patties to oblivion then cooking them to a crisp.

Thick juicy flame grilled burgers are good burgers. Hell, thick juicy fried burgers are far superior to any Smashed Crap Burger.

When they have to put 3 smashed burgers on a sandwich just to equal one good 1/4 pound patty, then charge you for 3 patties, like they are 1/4 pound patties is insane. Just absolutely stupid.

LOL, a promo picture is nothing like what you actually get. Frankly, hard to really scale what those patties look like, but yeah, still not a fan of those smashed patties whether over smashed like culvers/freddys, or not.

Flame grilled, thick formed patties are far better than smashed pancake flat fried patties.

Besides I can go to a ton of places that have burgers as good as that, and have a single patty the size of that double. Again, if I want to choose a premium sit down restaurant, and I had to choose between a smash burger place and somewhere else, the smash burger place would not be my choice. But I also am not comparing a premium sit down restaurant to a fast food place either. Comparing a place like that to any fast food burger joint really is not fair.

I just went to their website, that burger doesnt look anything like what they show on their page. They even show videos of extremely over smashed and over cooked burgers. They show much smaller burgers, different buns etc.
They may have a much "better" smash burger, than others that have smash bugers, but its still a smash burger, and from what I see, the other components of the sandwich are what makes them better, not the actual smashed burger patty.

Like I said smashed burgers are far inferior to pretty much any other type of burger, when compared straight up.

This is from their site: Over smashed over cooked crap burger.

So you want to compare a $20 burger to $5 burger? Comparing this burger to a place like BBops or Culvers is not really fair.

Again, put non smashed patties on that burger, and it would be far better than what it is with smashed patties. Just like if I went to another place with $20 burgers, without smashed patties, that would be better than the above. I mean put 2, 1/3 pound, hand formed patties on that burger, and it would not even be close, the smashed burgers would not even come close to measuring up. But those 2 smashed patties might equal 1, 1/3 pound patty, if you are lucky. Then flame grill them instead of grease frying them to a crisp and you take it to another level.

Smashed burgers are just not as good. Period.

How do all you coffee haters poop in the morning?
Wait, is this really a thing?

I drink a LOT of coffee. Always Black, no cream, no sugar. Make a pot as soon as I wake up, and then drink coffee until I go to bed. I have a travel mug I keep full, all day/night until I go to bed. I rarely drink anything else. When eating (outside breakfast) I do drink something other than coffee usually, usually water.

And I have never noticed it makes me poop more, or less. Some talke like it works like exlax, but I have never noticed anything like that.
