I like them for international sporting events/events where it is a national team competing (e.g. Olympics, World Cup, qualifying for the World Cup, etc.). May also for national championship games, but not for anything else. I think it’s kind of silly to play it at other events.

Also, include me in the group that would prefer to change the national anthem, although I’m in the “my country tis of thee” camp.

Depends.

It would be weird to have the stealth bomber fly over and not do some singing
I’m one of the weirdos that would prefer to not have those types of flyovers at all.

How else can we show the world that we can kill them before they even know they are dead??

Not exactly sure.
if it is not played at games, then when will we get to sing it?

I think the pledge of allegiance should be said every morning to start the school day, and the anthem should be sung at sporting events.

It is a grim reminder of the sacrifices made so that Americans can enjoy a football game with their families free from fear, a hotdog, and a beer.,

Of course, I am ex-military, so my view, which was once shared by all, may now be in the minority.
Cripes dude, now you are going to turn this into we need to sell beer at ISU event. ;)

FYI, we don't sell alcohol to the general public at our games.

It should go.

Its way out of place and unnecessary. Lets take this event where there's all kinds of hype building pregame, and stop that dead in its tracks with a slow-ass song.

Also, not a huge fan of our national anthem in general. Its should have been America the Beautiful.
Ok. Then take out Bells of Iowa State too then.

How about the original pledge? The one before we worried about those godless Commies?

I don't mind the anthem being played at sporting events; I just wish the US anthem was more melodic, like america the beautiful

I figured High School events would be enough. High school football, high school basketball, the same for college, Indy, NASCAR and even dirt track races, rodeos. It's played before nearly every sporting event from high school up.

Oh I see. The post phrasing confused me.

Yea, I’ll stand by with it’s a good starting point.

At this point, I don’t think it’s going anywhere, and anywhere that tries, the outrage that would come wouldn’t outweigh any benefit of cutting it.

Nothing. What do The Bells have to do with the event other than it’s at Iowa State?
The fact that one of the teams represents Iowa State seems relevant.

If Iowa State is playing the Bells of Iowa State at an event it’s hosting but is not represented in, I’d agree that is silly

90% of fans are showing up specificially because they are iowa state fans, most of them having a personal connection to the university. To act like these are the same is asinine.

Also, its not like the band plays it before every event the way the SSB is anyway. It goes afterwards for basketball.

Does this not happen in other countries?

Preach. A better piece of music, easier to sing, and not a lifted melody from a drinking song.
