It should go.

Its way out of place and unnecessary. Lets take this event where there's all kinds of hype building pregame, and stop that dead in its tracks with a slow-ass song.

Also, not a huge fan of our national anthem in general. Its should have been America the Beautiful.

I know right. Let's just replace the national anthem for this song for athletic events.

I personally don't care if they did or didn't play the national anthem, but it takes all like 2 minutes.

You'll be just watching tiktok while on your phone while it playing, so just let the song play. The America is so divided anyways and a lot of people don't care/know/remember of the history, maybe they should just think about it. How bout you go live in a 3rd world country and find attend a professional sports event watching with millionaire players, have a beer, a hotdog, and leave back to your comfy house who can get earlier 2 minutes without the song. Well except it'd be even longer with all the commercialize of sports.

I mean I don't care if they play the national anthem, but maybe in America we have other problems (or lack of problems to find something to complain) before a little song.

It doesn't bother me before games and it does occasionally stir emotions inside me about how incredible and special our country is. That said, I see the point that it isn't really needed to be played at college games. However, it IS crucial and important to play at U.S. international sporting events, in my opinion. It is awesome at U.S. soccer matches, and it leads to a lot of people singing in unity with the same passion for the USA, USA, USA. Also, the same with say our USA basketball team playing it before exhibitions. It means a lot more in that context when countries are playing each other compared to before domestic league games.

So, I guess if I was making the decision, then I say we keep it to remind ourselves of the bonds we share as Americans and how special our country is.

Based on the lyrics or the melody? I’d submit Englands as being worse. It’s all about the King/Queen and how the people want the royalty to always be above them, essentially

I think "The Defense of Ft. McHenry" is a fine poem. I just find its tone and content too bellicose for a national anthem. The national song of the U.S. should be about something more than war alone.

I've also never liked its association with Woodrow Wilson and his damned war in Europe. It wasn't played before ballgames until WWI when Wilson wanted to rile up the "national spirit" for war.

Not cool. The national anthem should be about national unity (hence "America the Beautiful") or associated with a more righteous cause ("Battle Hymn of the Republic" and the Union in the Civil War).

The melody/meter is the real problem.

The "Battle Hymn of the Republic" is incredibly stirring. The tests our country faced in the Civil War, and the people willing to fight and die for it is truly incredible.

Why doesn't every work office say the pledge of allegiance at the start of the day? Why isn't the national anthem played before middle school sporting events, Iowa State intramurals, or farmers markets?

They play it at every little league prior to the start of games. Also by not playing it does not make the game start any sooner.

Not exactly sure.
It was a little league rule when I was on the board 14 years ago. They must have changed it
Guessing it also goes by area. Our area may not have been "official" little league also. We would have had to have someone bring a boom box to play it at our place, no PA.

Too much baggage.

Would you be upset if the national anthem was no longer played at sporting events? I've heard a lot of people say they wish performers would just get it overwith to get

Absolutely not. I love hearing the national anthem and seeing the reverance it inspires. Batiste's version was remarkable. When no one is soloing it, I love to hear the muffled voices of the crowd doing it.
