At some point it won’t be all about the money. Just look at Kansas. Players want to win too. Can we be competitive enough in NIL? Yes. Strong culture beats highest payroll 99% of the time.
Don’t worry, I’ll dumb my own post here but just had to say it..

Strong culture guys also enjoy getting paid double.

Example I’m just making up in my nervous brain. Self could offer Jefferson 2 or 3 times what we can. He can go there, be a great culture guy, join also good culture guys also getting paid more, and they go on and win a title.

Kansas has struggled with a couple bad culture fits. I’m not going to assume they are going to keep doing that. I’d bet they adjust just fine. They have the funds (like Indiana) to do so.

It's important not to take our coaches for granted. We have a basketball coach that has earned the right to be in discussions for big-time jobs and we also need to remember that we have to continue to push and increase our NIL budget. Maybe his slightly weird diatribe last week about how these are the greatest times and we need to appreciate them has something to do with this.

That being said, part of the reason that people dismiss this is that TJ has been very effusive about how much he loves Iowa State and how much he wants to be here and he has not been shy about how close he is with Pollard. He's been much more out front about this than Hoiberg ever was and that Campbell ever has been.

IMHO, this thread is really dumb. It should be locked. In my perfect world, the thread would get permanently deleted. I could care less what some IU homer spouts off about his ultimate dream. There’s nothing to suggest that TJ to the Hoosiers is anything more than a desperate attempt to draw attention.

Send it to the cave if nothing else

We have guys getting double the offer we can offer for next year already. It’s not about super teams, it’s about keeping this team together as it stands for now and beyond.
I'm pretty worried about losing Jefferson. I have a feeling teams are going to be backing up the Brinks truck for him

Wait… schools are already making offers to current ISU players? Surely that’s not supposed to be allowed.

Indirect, deniable tampering has been going on since at least the Hoiberg era. Over-the-table money, agents, and no-sit transfers have certainly escalated things.

Goodman is a clown. He’s got some connections so you follow him for news if you like cbb, but his actual knowledge of the game itself is prettt bad. It’s Hilarious how jealous he is of Seth Greenberg if you follow him you know.

I have to imagine Tamin is giving us atleast a 50% discount. Atleast.
God knows how much a sniper like Jones could get today.

This.

I fear a lot of Iowa State fans overestimate “loyalty”. We have forever. Myself included. TJ is loyal. He loves Iowa State. He truly believes he can win a title in Ames. And goddamn, that’s awesome. But we can’t be naïve to think there isn’t a world where he feels he can’t get and keep the types of players he believes it will take to get there.

My dream scenario is Iowa not getting Devries and at the same time Indiana swoops in to get Drakes coach and Iowa gets like the 5th choice. Iowa basketball is dead and will really struggle to make it back with their low NIL. Indiana will bounce back soon with the right coach with as much as they can NIL kids. Hopefully TJ isn’t the guy. Wonder if Indiana is committing more money to football NIL now with them having a solid coach. Might take away from their basketball NIL a little bit

Miami football and basketball, Indiana basketball currently, North Carolina, Texas Tech next year.

NIL funds are great but by no means guaranteed success. Also TJ’s style might not fit a high NIL team.
There's obviously examples of NIL funds not buying the correct players for their team and KU is a great example of that this year, but there's more examples of big NIL budgets helping. The Ohio State won a football title mostly because of it. The SEC is now the top conference in basketball almost all because of the NIL. NIL is a game changer and every year that goes by as the schools figure out how to use it best, it's going to be extremely important for success.
