Hackman, age 95, died in his Santa Fe home yesterday. His wife and their dog were also found dead. Very strange.

I was a big fan of Hackman. Amazing actor with a great sense of humor.

That is two actors in one day.

What an awesome actor he was. After a long life of 95 years, carbon monoxide poisoning wouldn't be a bad way to go, relatively speaking. Tragic for his wife and dog, though.

Hackman appeared in an enormous number of movies, so not every one of them was a big hit. Nevertheless, he was one of those rare actors where if I saw his name in the cast, I would automatically want to go see the movie. Matt Damon and Tom Hanks would be other examples.

I remember my parents taking me to see Superman and even at that young age thought he was great. So many great roles for someone who was never supposed to be "good".

RIP to Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle. Gene Hackman was an absolute icon.

Fun fact: my aunt and uncle have his stove.

15 or so years ago, my aunt wanted to upgrade their stove. She wanted one with multiple ovens and a gas range. New ones were super expensive, so they turned to Craigslist. They corresponded with the seller and agreed to buy it, and when they went to pick it up, the seller they'd been communicating with was Gene Hackman. That's right, Royal Tenenbaum handles his business personally.
