That was the entire point of what I said. Its hard for people who don't live in NBA markets or states to realize how much bigger the NBA is than college basketball also. I expect people in places like Iowa and Nebraska to think nobody watches pro sports and the college sports is superior in every way. If Des Moines had an NBA team ISU basketball wouldn't be what it is.
No doubt, college sports in most big markets is pretty much an afterthought.

I just don’t think coaching in the NBA is as big a draw vs college as that fan gap suggests. Coaches in the NBA are in a tough spot between owners and star players. College might start looking more like that, so that downside of the NBA might be heading to the college game to some extent.

Some coaches want to coach at the highest level, that is the NBA, they have to best of everything, 1st class travel, hotels, food, fitness you name it those players have it, and so do the coaches. The NBA biggest problems today is the stars do not want to play every night, Charles Barkley has been ripping on them for the last couple of years on the topic. Why do you need a day off, nurses, doctors, teachers and others get up and go to work every day and you cannot play basketball 2 or 3 nights a week. If you want time off, play 25 minutes instead of 40 one night, it's a major problem in the league right now.

It all adds up. We have donors matching gifts until the Final Four which happens to coincide with the portal  …we’re at about $70,000 now. They agreed to match $200,000. But with everyone stepping up I think could be increased! One donor in particular told me he wanted the entire fanbase to step up and he would do more

Tavern Hoks worried that Indiana might hire Ben McCollum from Drake and they are stuck with that lunatic McCaffrey. DeVries isn’t going to Iowa either.
Listening to Chris and Chris, definitely a reminder that the new era (and the capped revenue sharing) will for sure impact all hires and Iowa will have to share to a new coach what they will commit. If they say "$2 million" and a coach knows other school have a $3 million, that's real....but if a dept says they can get it up higher, that means they need to talk to the other programs and explain why their chunk of the pie will be less.

Found this in the responses to that tweet. I'm sure not every Hoosier fan feels this way, but there is definitely a lot who do. It really is the equivalent of Nebraska football, although maybe worse because it's been even longer since anyone considered IU mens basketball perennially one of the best in the sport.

IU hoops fans in my personal experience, are extremely obnoxious for the most part. I love it when they lose and always root against them. But I still love "Hoosiers" .

Does May just not want to leave MI early? Happy with UM's $$$ resources?

See he played at IU and is from Terre Haute. So figured 'come home' could be a good sales pitch.

Not everyone has a huge draw to come back to their alma mater as well.

He's kind of coached all over the place so he may not feel tied to any one place, and Michigan is close enough for those times he may want to be in Indiana anyway.

There may be something to be said for being at a program that can give basketball all the resources it needs but without being a "basketball school" where all the pressure is on the basketball team to succeed. Kind of a paradigm shift from where it used to be.

He’s 48 and his livelihood has been college basketball.

There have likely been a lot of formative, “home” experiences for these coaches. See TJ

Michigan with top NIL/revenue would be a better job imo. Same upside but can be in the shadows of football

So if 100k+ Cyclone fans each donated $2, we’d have $400k more NIL

I think increasing the odds of being better is worth at least $10 to 25k Cyclones. I mean, as a fanbase we’re going to spend 100 times that in KC next week.

Going to the NCAA 1st round, I’d spend way over $10 for the chance at a better trip. For example, less commute time, better food…winning.

It would be an extremely sad market inefficiency if we don’t match that $200k

I know it’s not exactly the same, but if $10k improved our Final Four odds even 50%, I’d do it. Although I’d bet against us in each round of the tournament as a hedge against my investment.
Clemson started IPTAY (I Pay Ten A Year) during the depression (1934), and it still works!

For those that may not be familiar with We Will and NIL, how capable is earmarking for MBB?

Do you know of any NIL collectives/AD that do options?

Say, an investor gives $xx but has the right to some portion of that back if some condition not met- ideally revenue for the AD, but also certain number of wins, certain players retained or acquired. You sold an option.

For player retention or acquisition, it would be more conventional for you to buy an option, the right to such funds, if they’re needed (in other words, successful retention or acquisition and costs incurred). Basically, you’re buying insurance in case of some event occurring and you need funds, or either by paying fans a premium or more likey with fans donating the coverage.

But given the counterparty risk in crowdsourcing such obligations , you’d need to get the funds first, at least in escrow, with return of funds if the event didn’t occur.

I feel like it would be easier to crowdsource NIL if small donors felt like they had certainty, removing the feeling their donation is too small to make certain something happens while also mitigating the public good nature of NIL

Obviously wins and rights to revenue are harder to sell an option on, as if we don’t win and the AD has the obligation to pay back, we’re in a jam, but that’s not too different than what we’re going to need to do with PE, and better than anytime we borrow now to make more in the future

And I thought the Realignment Megathread was hard to understand.
