It's an interesting idea. I do think there will come a day that TJ (and a lot of other P5 coaches) just scraps high school recruiting altogether. Aside from Hunter, Lipsey, and Momcilovic, TJ has really not had success with high school recruits. I don't think he's necessarily missing on these kids, but the fact that he insists on playing only an 8 man rotation at most means a high school kid is going to come here and sit for a long time. And while he's sitting, not getting game reps, someone else is getting game reps somewhere else and that someone might get recruited in the portal over the guy that committed to Iowa State right out of high school. We've got a pretty big high school class coming in this offseason, by recent standars, I'm curious how it all shakes out. I'm of the mindset that odds are strong that there very well could be another Jelani Hamilton, Dwayne Pierce, or even Demarion Watson in the class.
I think it’s more likely that you’ll see guys who are top 75-200 start going the mid-major route out of high school to try to get more immediate playing time than to see programs like ISU stop recruiting them. Schools need to fill rosters, high schoolers outside the top 50 aren’t expensive, and if they hit like a Tamin Lipsey (obviously unique in that he’s an Ames kid) then you got a return on your scratch off ticket.

I don’t think high major coaches are writing high schoolers off as just practice bodies, but realistically you’ve got to be pretty special to make it as a freshman in this era. Maybe getting the COVID players through the system returns it to some normalcy, but they also are talking about going to five years of eligibility.

Edit: easier to manage egos when you have freshman sitting on the bench compared to upperclassmen transfers, as well.

Jaden Walkers season and collegiate career came to an end last night in the Southland Quarterfinals. TX a&m Corpus Christi fell to NW State in a close one. Jaden played well, 8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists. That makes Darlinstone Dubar the last of the Prohm recruits to use up his eligibility. The other 4 guys left are all TJ guys--Grill, Hunter, Paveletzke, Omaha. I guess Grill is kind of both.

Prentiss Nixon would like a word with you.

Prohm had zero idea what he was doing, and the recruiting results were just a random number generator. But even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
I think Prentiss would have been solid with more development. He started to come on at the end of the year when Tyrese went out and he moved to PG. He was more of a Nate Heise-like role player. Similarly when Heise was asked to shoot more and create offense he struggled. Prentiss had to do that the whole season.

Foster was obvious if you saw him play at Oskaloosa
100%. He had all the athleticism in the world at 7’0” to dominate. Especially dominate 3A Iowa high school basketball, but he just had no killer instinct. Played soft. Was super lazy playing as well. He should have and could have been averaging like 30ppg and 25rpg at Osky.

Yep, forgot somebody it looks like

I was listening to the Rutgers/USC game as I was delivering/picking up tax returns and here the name a couple times. I thought he transferred to Rutgers but it seems like a long time ago since he was here.

And didn't Story County have an arrest warrant for him for the whole stupid gambling thing?

I know it came out after he transferred that he was involved in the gambling thing somehow or another. Can't remember if his arrest warrant was for that or something else.
