He has improved from having a bad shot…to a not good shot

Fair to be optimistic, but the statement was one of the best shooting classes ever. That’s not true. Only Batemon is a plus shooter

Maybe it was meant scorers? Batemon, Toure, and Moore can all get down hill to the bucket. Mitchell is crafty as a 6’6” power forward, and Pleta can drive for his height
Agree. TJ seems to recruit "scorers" over pure shooters. The getting down hill stuff works in high school, not so much in college unless you are "elite". Look at Keshon this year, teams have cut off his drives and he's struggled immensely. I really wish TJ would look at a guard/wing (or two) that can run off screens and get off a shot. We don't have anyone like that and haven't in awhile. It's why we hit a wall offensively in so many games and is usually our demise come March when no one can throw it in the ocean.

Tamin has been initiating the offense less and handling/distributing the ball less this year. You can see this in his assists numbers (4.9 in 31 minutes per game last year, 2.6 in 31 minutes per game this year). He's playing this combo-guard role that I don't think he's a great fit for. I imagine it's from the thumb injury hampering his ball-handling some.
Keshon was the primary PG before the thumb injury. But, with his recent assist/turnover ratio, and our continuing trend of turning the ball over, I'm more than fine with him playing the primary PG. And, with Keshon's injury, we may not have much choice. It's the rest of the team that needs to tighten up their ball handling/passes.

I strongly believe that Keshon's injury is what has impacted his driving ability much more than opponents.
Milan and Curtis are both very capable shooters off a screen.

I thought one of the UNI/Cyclone types on here (@1UNI2ISU was this you?) said Fish was on his way to Cedar Falls when J'Vonne Hadley bailed, opening up a scholarship, and TJ, lacking any better options late in the transfer period and wanting to use that last scholarship, brought Fish back at the last second.
That is correct. He was working on his deal with the collective when Iowa State circled back with more money.

I'm not sure he actually would have even played much at UNI. He wasn't taking Tytan Anderson's minutes and he's not really a wing. Classic tweener.

It seems like you hope our recruits play poorly so you can be proven correct on an anonymous msg board.

I think Mitchell will surprise you - to me you don't seem very familiar with his game.

All of these are minor points in the big picture. Have to be able to play D under TJ to see the court, and its a huge jump for any freshman.

Probably a few more but UNI has one of the top recruits in Minnesota coming in that's going to play there, Jalen Wilson. He was a Top 100 kid right up until he committed to UNI.

UNI is actually at the roster cap so it'll depend on if/how many guys go in the portal.

Xzavion looks like a younger, better ball handling JJeff in those videos. Not super flashy but figures out how to score at a high clip.
I know this is probably just a figure of speech, but really? He's 2in shorter and about 50lbs less. Also, everyone has good handles in hs. Jefferson didn't have TO issues until he got big12 competition.

Now, out of the recruiting class I do think he will be the best one. But a comparison for him I don't think is currently on our roster. My thought was keshon hall from ucf.

Very one dimensional player.
Lots of things for him to work on.
Disagree - he's been very good on both ends since coming back from his wrist injury. He's not a plus-defender, but he's capable of all of the switching that is required in this defense. He's been much more creative on offense in terms of driving to the rim, and using counter-moves to his fadeaway. And his release has gotten really REALLY fast on the catch and shoot three.

Next year sets up well, with Lipsey and Jefferson running the two-man game with Milan as the outlet / third-option when they help.

Rohde looks decent, steady. But I'm not sure he will be able to be as impactful as Gilbert and Jones. Maybe in our system he may flourish more. I would imagine coming out of Virginia he knows how to play some defense. Looking at the starting lineup above, not the most athletic. Doesn't mean that can't win a lot of games, but that could be a weakness.

My big question is can he play similar on-ball defense

He’ll have as big of impact on offense, albeit differently

Jones was not thought highly of either

ACC isn't great but it's better than the MAC. Guy was solid and would be a great get. Depth at PG

Have been really impressed by Momcilovic over the last month. Less in love with his fade away and getting to the basket.

That said, he's also the guy who I feel needs to work the heck out of his game in the off-season and hit the weight room to get stronger, quicker and more explosive. At his height and playing the 3, he'd be an elite scorer if he can add a mid-range game.

Feels like today was a showing of what we are going to see from him as a player next year. Has proof of shooting skill that frees up his footwork to put some nice plays together. Him plus Jefferson and Jackson give us a phenomenal front court.

We need him to improve his all-around game if we’re to offset the loss of Jones and Gilbert.

And given he’s not a plus defender or rebounder, it means him becoming elite offensively. And not just elite in hitting jumpers as the secondary/tertiary option

We can’t afford to pay scorer money to a 3 and D wing that’s mediocre on defense

Jefferson and Jackson need to be improved too, at least more consistent. Jefferson could become a 1st/2nd team level player. (real 2nd team, top -10). He’s not athletic enough to be Toppin level, but he could be just below that as an efficient high usage forward.

I kinda wish Niang would work with Milan on driving to the hole and scoring down low. Milan has a little bit of the "old man game" that Georges had at OSU.

Yeah but tweeners make hay at UNI. Tytan Anderson is a great example of that.
