Counting on a freshman to come in and be a shot-maker I think is optimistic. Hopefully he does that but I'd want an older shooter on the roster too. Can't have too many shooters.
We see plenty of other programs across the country where freshmen contribute immediately as shot makers and scorers. I don't know why we should be any different.

We need him to improve his all-around game if we’re to offset the loss of Jones and Gilbert.

And given he’s not a plus defender or rebounder, it means him becoming elite offensively. And not just elite in hitting jumpers as the secondary/tertiary option

We can’t afford to pay scorer money to a 3 and D wing that’s mediocre on defense

Jefferson and Jackson need to be improved too, at least more consistent. Jefferson could become a 1st/2nd team level player. (real 2nd team, top -10). He’s not athletic enough to be Toppin level, but he could be just below that as an efficient high usage forward.
I thought Jackson was out of eligibility? Jefferson did well taking over the PG spot against BYU & showed recently that he can shoot the 3. I could see his offense improvement if Otz focuses on his game with Gilbert gone.

He has one more year.

No idea whether he wants to stay here though. He’ll be able to get someone to overpay imo

Jefferson has not done well taking over "PG spot". He is turning ball over at too high of rate.

Dez White from Missouri State is in the portal. Kid plays his ass off and is a really nice offensive piece. He'd be a nice role player.

Turnovers aren’t the only metric

He had 7 assists, the team had 16 assists to just 9 TOs. We scored 92 and had our best offensive game of the year
Maybe with 3 more possessions without turnovers from Jefferson we can score 4 more points? Bad thing is that was a low turnover game for us by a ways. Recently we have been around 17 every night. Very good offensive game. Not so much on defense. Can’t afford big turning over as much as he does. If we want to beat good teams

Top 3 List as of right now:

1) Kennard Davis Jr. 6’6” guard who averaged 16 and 5 and 37% from 3 at Southern Illinois. Same high school as Keshon Gilbert.

2) Jamichael Stilwell: 6’8” forward from UW-Milwaukee. Averaged 13 and 10.7 last year

3) Kobe Magee: 6’6” guard from Drexel who averaged 14 and 6 last year shooting 44% from 3 (2.5 makes per game).

With a little work on his ball handling and outside shot, JJ will look a lot like a mix of peak Georges Niang and Royce White and will be one of the most dominant players in the country next season.

I just wonder how much it will cost to keep him

He’d fit well with Jefferson on the interior wouldn’t he?
Owen is going to demand a lot of NIL. Not a bad player but don't see ISU pursuing with the Presidents assumed back. ISU is much more likely to look at guard help and perhaps a Chatman level backup big depending on how Rock looks to the staff.

OK. I need to figure out who’s back. I thought we lost Jackson.
