Disappointing season

But you only put 5 guys in the court at a time and we had 5 who played in the NBA. No other team that many NBA and G-League guys on their roster that year, including Kansas.

Thats not how it works though. I’d rather have 1 NBA stud and a bunch of try hards than 4 guys lucky to get a 2 way deal and one NBA journeyman. “NBA guy” isn’t some catch all.

Anthony Davis and Georges Niang are both “NBA guys”, but I mean…

It's not that at all, when you are ranked in the top 10 most of the season, get up to #2 in the country, you expect to at least get through the first weekend. This was not a team hoping to get into the tournament and win a game, but one expected to make a solid run, which it did not do. I am sure the players and coaches are disappointed as well as the fans, but my question is "starting tomorrow, how are they going to fix it?" We need more mentally tough players, that do not let down, instead of players that are great when they are playing well, but disappear when it goes South.
Yep. And then injuries happened and things got out of sorts

Not trying to make an excuse, but this team was never as good defensively as last year. The offense was much better, but the 3 point defense was not good the second half of the year. Some of it is luck, some of it is just poor execution.

Tonight was just a night where the opposing team was making their open looks while ISU was throwing up bricks on their open looks

With that said, our expectations have changed under TJ. We know what his teams are capable of doing. And this is all positive.

I’d rather have a disappointing R32 exit than being like KState where you miss the tournament more times than making it

I think they were. Then the injury made them not a final four team any more.

Im arguing against people that somehow think having your best player get hurt is something a bunch of teams overcome.
You are remembering the Gilbert from early in the season, not the one that was a turnover machine once teams figured out to let him drive and then stop him from getting to the hoop. Without a doubt we were a better team with him, but he was also part of the problem with his turnovers before he got hurt.

I think tonight really shows how much our defensive intensity relies on hitting shots on the other end. Our defense sucked once we cooled off a bit. And we just never got that defense back.
Something I remember thinking about at one of our first couple games, we weren’t much improved on offense. Yeah we had some dudes but we still didn’t have much of a plan. I don’t consider chucking up a bunch of threes as having a plan.

Untimely injuries to a well constructed roster that couldn’t afford to lose the pieces it did. Nothing more nothing less. It’s unfortunate but it happens….move on.

Copy-pasting from my post in game day thread. I may have more to add, but need to "gather" after that train-wreck game.

4 straight tournament appearances. I won't take that for granted.

Advanced beyond seed line only once (2022).

Injury problem s***ed this season, but still managed to maintain a 3 seed.

A bummer that elimination game each tournament, ISU has gotten shredded, regardless of the round. It's up for debate if this was the worst, or the Pitt game. Miami we were in "all else is gravy."

Save yourself the disappointment. Don’t buy into the football hype machine for next year.
Yes!! You should embrace the negativity of coming off an 11 win season and playing in the Conference Championship Game and being one win away from the College Football Playoff. Be really bummed out about the upcoming season!! Believe that we are going to be terrible!! We need more fans like you!!

Well, two of our guys from that team are STILL in the league so I’d say they aren’t “lucky”. I would put Niang’s NBA career up against anyone else who was on a roster of a B12 team that finished ahead of us that year with the exception of Buddy Hield.

He's been hurt since January and tried to play through it. Yes teams made adjustments, but he also was far from 100%.

I'm not going to hear that we have to stay positive. We can say it this was a disappointing season. Pre season top 5 team and to lose the way we did in the round of 32 in a non-competitive game.

I not going to go as far as to start blaming the coach, players, or fans. Sometimes you just don't meet expectations and this year we most certainly did not.
With Jones and Keshon gone, I’ll ask.. where is the scoring coming from next year? I’m pretty concerned for our returning offense

This is worse than the Pitt game. Kinda feels like the UVA game.

This team will go down in my mind the same as 2018-19. Just a waste. Unnecessary drama and underachieving play
