Ali Farokhmanesh and JR Blount is probably the entirety of the list at Colorado State.
Seems like Blount is probably going to get something this off season. Sucks because he seems like an awesome piece of the staff but it's also good for the program just like in football for guys to go get opportunities. Will be interesting to see who we would look at to replace him

Sounds like Drake is only interested in guys that have been HCs, so he may not be on the list there.

Interesting but also kind of make sense. They have put 2 guys into high major positions and been really good the last few years. They will be an attractive spot for a lot of HCs

BM is a fine individual & good coach. Be interesting to see how this hire plays out over time. The B10 is not the MVC or D2 and Hawkeye Nation is not the most lovable or patient fan base.

he's gonna be a bigger success than McCollum in my opinion
Will be interesting to see how he does. The Gophs still play in that dump of a stadium. They do have a nice Athletes Village that may attract some kids.

Yeah, kind of begs the question why it didn't happen sooner. Just because it might be an obvious decision doesn't make it an easy decision. Barta was scared to death to make those moves. And she's caught a lot of hell over the BF firing from a lot of fans and former players, and it obviously was in direct opposition of what KF wanted.
Capt Kirk I’m sure was upset, but a lot of hok fans?

Is Drake making this hire in 2018?
They may very well hire a HC but they are not limiting themselves to HC only. If you don't think Blount is involved and likely interviews, not sure what else to say.

I think he will be a better coach than McCollum. The next step the gophers have to take is deciding what to do with the barn. It desperately needs major renovation or a complete tear down/rebuild. It's a large building as there is a divider wall that separates the basketball arena to the Pavilion, where volleyball and some other sports are played.

Hope they don't tear the Barn down. I was a Gopher season ticket holder during Clem's run and the Barn was a great place to watch games. Quirky, but fun.

I'll say this much, its going to be really interesting to see how the McCollum tenure goes at Iowa. Its all well and good to say he doesn't need 5 star kids to win and that's why he will be successful. But he will still need a different type of kid than he has coached at NWMS and Drake to be successful night in and night out in the Big 10. A good and well coached midmajor team has always been able to beat a major conference team in any given game, but its also always been pretty clear they would have a hard time holding up in those games night after night. Managing high major recruiting, family/agents, NIL negotiations, etc is a specialized skill that he has virtually no experience in. TJ had years of navigating those things before he became the head coach here.

It's a factor but Grant McCasland and Dusty May are really close friends. He's got access to their insight on it and they've done it at a high level.

He's going to have to get more talent but he's also going to have more tools to do it.

I wouldn't even be so much worried about him getting enough talent. It will just be a steep learning curve to know and balance the trade offs of talent vs the system and culture you want. I always think back to Greg McDermott at Iowa St. Part of it was he just had some back luck, but I also think a big part of it was having trouble finding that balance that worked for him in the guys he brought in and how to best help them succeed. All of a sudden he was able to get a lot more (or maybe just different) talent than he was used to and it pretty clearly caused him issues. He's a good coach and was able to learn and adapt, but it took a failed stop to get there.
