No reason to think that is decent option. We’re in big trouble at 97 if that is what happens.

AJ is still my top choice, but if no other 197 jump in the portal, let Schon and Naak battle it out.
Yeah if we are really down to Schon as our primary and we are talking about backups for him we are in a sad state of affairs.
Would not be ideal.
Schon got better throughout the year but he’s still a ways from NCAA points.
Seems as tho we are all having clear concise and substantiated thoughts for a Monday morning which I like to see!!!

I wouldn't mind Isaac Dean for a year to let Bartelt develop for another year before taking over 184. I haven't heard great things on TJ Stewart from some friends that are close with the VA Tech program
I think Stewart has talent, but not sure about his work ethic. Not sure what happened last year after a great season 2 years ago. 16-5 his freshman year (redshirt) at 197, 14-4 and 7th AA his redshirt freshman year at 184, then 12-12 this year at 184. Does he need to be at 197? Not sure
Totally disagree. Who cares about winning duals. We need more tournament points. I rather get 1 blue chip (which I’m pretty sure we have $ for than multiple maybe upgrades). I rather develop guys. Tate was a top 30 kid. He hasn’t shown much but has also dealt with injuries. We have seen what a healthy year in the starting lineup can do for a wrestler…J. Frost, Riggins, and Schon. Heck Perryman improved considerably the last month. May have been a better option at Big 12s as it turned out.
Soldano has some upside. His body of work is probably the best amongst the other three listed. Is Dean a one-year wonder or did he improve that much? Results before this year were pretty bad. Stewart had a decent year when he placed 7th but really didn't have many great wins. Cotton is simply not that good.
I'm not sure any of these guys are worth that much when compared to what we already have in the room. I'd take my chance on Bartelt before spending the bank on any of the other options listed here.
I've been hopeful that Hagarty would turn a corner at some point, not that we should be banking on that.
I’m with you on the tourney side but for a second how have the last 2 blue chippers worked out for us ie Swid and Chit?
I don’t know the whole story nor do any of us on the 84/97 in the portal but I’d venture to guess they can be had a more reasonable clip… as we have seen 2 with the portal era sometimes the change of scenery and a different coaching philosophy can unlock a kid. So if it makes the room and that weight better you have to take that inch and still shoot for the foot somewhere else, maybe that’s the Hs blue chip that year.
Lastly to not completely ruin wrestling where duals don’t matter what if that kid we snag beats out our current kid lets use Schon at 97 and that wins us a dual against Iowa for instance?!? Right that builds momentum elsewhere
Get better whenever you can whether it’s an inch or a foot. Waiting for a year bc it doesn’t move it much is bs bc the team and the National landscape will be drastically different with NIL movement
Which someone remind me during the Hagerty and Voelker recruiting timeline were they both the same year? We’re both a take and interested in the same spot? If so a bummer of a miss to have to local kids and to see where both are at right now on the ISU front
Voelker is a year older. Wrestled 2A and Hagarty 3A. Not sure if they crossed paths at some point. Voelker RS JR next year and Hagarty RS Soph.
Hagarty definitely felt like the bigger recruit at the time. He will have 3 years left, any idea where he’s going @NEIACyclone ?
I still think Bartelt is the real deal, especially if he can make 184. Give that kid his opportunity to shine
UNI/PSU coaches best in nation at developing 174-197
UNI definitely has a good track record of developing kids, one could argue Brody Teske could’ve stayed there and been an All American as well.
