I like Buzz, but for some reason his teams have a ceiling.

Buzz is a good coach but he bails before he can build anything significant. Or maybe his ceiling is coaching good teams. This is his 5th job and he’s been fired from zero which is pretty rare. He leaves before expectations get elevated.

Since he left Marquette randomly 11 years ago - guess how many Sweet 16s he has…one. He has two other NCAA tournament wins in 11 years - not exactly elite level material.

Athletic departments make money from other than TV. They could spend a disproportionate amount on basketball NIL, but my guess is the AD figures MD needs to be competitive in football to keep 40k people coming to the stadium on Saturdays and making their Terrapin Club donations.

The reality is 40k attendance stinks. Grow that to 50k or 60k fans in the stands is big money. There was a time when Iowa State struggled to get 40k fans to football games. We are now averaging around 60k. While MD probably can't win National Titles in College Football, their goal is probably a consistent top 25 team. Really no different than Iowa or Iowa State.

So the AD is probably balancing their NIL $ between hoops & football and trying to be competitive with other Big 10 teams in both sports.
Once upon a time, the Terrapins were a Football power! :)

The wild west part is largely because college sports is doing all they can to avoid calling them employees.

If and when they are considered employees, the can unionize, collectively bargain, pool union dues so they can hold out, go on strike, etc. There's also an increased liability component that would come into play that can cut both ways.
Even more of a reason to take a step back! And I’m not saying they should be considered employees. It’s certainly a double edged sword.

I’m just not sure the current model is sustainable.

Smaller conferences are exploring Salary Cap options. Trying to keep a level playing field.

That sideline alley-oop was wicked!

This is what I was saying previously...we don't need another transfer guard. Let Toure and Batemon play. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them starts over Williams at the 2.
Is Batemon a PG? Not disagreeing. It's just that I keep reading that he is a shooting guard which may have changed during his senior year.

If we play Lipsey 22-24 minutes or so (my preferred range to save wear and tear) and Jefferson plays point forward for 6-8 minutes, that leaves only leaves 10 minutes open for someone else (like Toure). Can Williams help fill some minutes there? Either way, we're not talking a ton of minutes, but it does get pretty slim if Lipsey gets dinged up (which history shows he will, he just goes full throttle all the time, it's his nature).

What other guards are we targeting besides Rhode? Since he hasn't signed yet I assume he isn't coming here.
We still have 2 Scholoarships Available, I would really hope we use atleast one on a scoring guard that can get 10-15 ppg. We contacted Josh Dix a week ago, I'm guessing thats a no? Anyone new we are going after?

Rohde could still come here, we are still the favorite to get him. I like Kennard Davis Jr. We are targeting him; he's out of Southern Illinois and is a guard. Conor Enright out of DePaul is decent, but Rohde is the only person I know who has a high chance of coming here. The other two are targets.

None that I have heard about. Doesn’t mean we aren’t (I’m not on premium), but I haven’t heard of any other targets.

I know Tamin gets dinged a lot but one of our best players has to play more than 22-24 minutes a game

He averaged 29.5 this season. My assumption is that he'd average less in the non-conference and more in conference play and if March is the only thing that matters (assuming that you get to the dance in the first place), we need him to get there as healthy as possible to make a run.

Staff is still recruiting Rhodes and we should get some clarity by tomorrow once he finishes up the WI visit.

They are evaluating what is in the portal right now and sure making some calls.

Plenty of SG in the portal and taking Buchanan instead of Cluff gives the staff more NIL to allocate to the best fit. They have a whole new tier of guards to look at that the didn't have enough resources for a couple days ago.

Batemon= Jones
Toure= Gilbert

At least stylistically. Batemon is one of the best shooters in the class and from Toure’s highlights he looks like a more athletic Keshon.
