This thread is too long! I don't see a valid cite that this is a thing. Anyone have one?

The only thing I find is a Sports Illustrated link that admits it is just rumor.

I don’t fault anyone (college athlete or not) for leaving their current job for more money. I like money. I would probably do the same. In fact it is because I like money that I have never and probably will never give a dime to NIL. I’ll continue to cheer for I.S.U. even if we end up being a B level team in a B level conference with no shot at winning a national championship at the A level. I’ll continue to post on players in the portal because that topic involves players on my favorite college team. If I have a desire to give to charity it will probably be to help feed starving people or maybe save some dogs. I like dogs too.

If only we had some other model where pro sports teams generated money through ticket sales, licensing their team brand, and tv rights then used that money to pay their players rather than wealthy donations disguised as fake advertising opportunities.

Yet CFB playoffs broke viewership records as has the NCAA tournament.
CFB playoff viewership numbers were down significantly. ESPN reported 17% down in the semis. They have been flat to down largely over the years with some big swings depending on who is playing.

Also, the effects of NIL and portal are still pretty early. After 5-6 years of a bunch of guys on one year free agent deals, maybe the casual fan with personal connections with universities will lose interest.

And him leaving isn't being disloyal. He didn't **** over his friends, family, or anyone he really cares about. That's who you need to be loyal too He let down a bunch of people who only give a **** about him because he helps their favorite team win. Like come on! The second he no longer benefits the fan base he's worthless to most of them

When teams start having very little chance people will start doing other things. If Iowa State gets to a point we can’t compete or have a chance, I assume vewier number for the Clones will go down. It’s already happened in Iowa city. Nobody showing up and very few care. I know Ben is supposed to be the savior but if his current recruiting is any indication, he ain’t saving anything

St Mary’s had a lot of good transfers playing for other teams in the NCAA yet still had a good team in the tournament themselves.

Will he break LSU hearts with butter fingers when the game is on the line?
Lol, this is why I'm not even that upset of he decides to take an SEC bag. He's a good player but his MO was trying to go 1 on 4 and then getting ball stripped most of the time. If he was actually 3 million good then he would have stepped up and we wouldn't have gotten blown out by Ole Miss.

If the Big 12 were to somehow become a minor conference or ISU were to somehow have no chance in the Big 12 with the top being a juggernaut and the bottom being MVC quality…I’d probably casually care like I care about ISU’s Olympic sports but I wouldn’t be following every game on TV/radio or wanting to attend games.

The obvious goal is for every conference except Big Ten and SEC to be a minor lower league. In football it’s kind of here already. For whatever reason the Big Ten can’t turn its advantages into being great at basketball but the SEC seems to be onto something just this year.

I agree with you but I also think he has a ton of potential. My concern is that other schools can pay that kind of money based on his potential alone. It reminds me of college football a little until scholarships were reduced. You have guys riding the bench at places that could be starting at a lot of other places. I think it's bad for parity.

That's the way the system is made. If fans aren't supposed to be upset because a player leaves than the player can't be upset when the fans don't like him after leaving.

Yep...a weird formula with no correct answer and lots of emotions tied to fandom. So much easier when contributions were building bridges or locker rooms.

I get that CW and Blum can't say all they know, but also wish they didn't always act like they don't know the moving parts. I'm sure our returners that stayed had agents trying to work us over too....just like it sounds like Jefferson has happening.

If I understand, next year bball would have a set budget, correct? I know it may differ from others schools amount, but in theory at portal time they will know what they are paying current guys and have to spend on incoming...so maybe less "asks" to fans

I doubt he or any other player who transfers to better their life cares. He isn't complaining about the criticism of him. The sane people in the fan base on here are just telling the delusional ones the reality of the situation. If people want to troll his social media pages that's fine. He's a paid athlete now. Most of us are just saying the people whining would have made the same decision.

I can’t believe how incompetent the staff is at getting the players we need to compete for championships.

Also some fans:
Oh that takes money….well between my Starbucks monthly dues, Hulu, Netflix, YouTube TV and $500 dollar bat for my son’s 8 & Under travel team I cannot afford to give any money.
