Hearing Askren is opening a wrestling academy in CR - will practice at Prairie until facility built or purchased
I wonder what the reason for him to branch over to Iowa? He’ll be taking from the Hawkeye backed wrestling clubs, bet that isn’t going to sit well with the brands bros lol
I’ll find out more if I can . I know one of the elite women will be coaching there .
@jkbuff98 or anyone else in HS wrestling know; does Askren have the tendency to point his club wrestlers towards a certain college? I don’t follow HS or club wrestling.
Well as of now he has guys at mizzou(his Alma mater), PSU and one at UNI. There’s a few others just can’t think of them right off hand. He may help some with recruiting but I don’t know for sure.

One at Illinois, brothers at Arkansas little rock, Purdue, Minnesota, 2 at UNI, Bucknell, penn state, missouri
During Nationals I think I saw a graphic online somewhere that they had something like 20 NQs this year.
So I didn’t realize Max was born in Cedar Rapids. I have no idea when they made the move to WI but maybe that’s some of the reason they want to open a facility in town there.
I’ll have to ask some questions , heard it at my niece’s softball game last night from a coach at Prairie
I wonder if it is women only then, he didn’t say one way or another just that Askren was opening an academy in CR and did mention the woman’s coach . I know it’s not a rumor I’ll find out more if I can .
I know of a former Cyclone wrestler (and current assistant coach at another D1 program) that was approached about running the Askren Iowa club but not sure he is going to do it. I will say, if my kids wanted to do club wrestling someday, and I had my choice of any club, it would be AWA all day.
Matt McDonough was briefly on the Wisconsin staff and has been running his own little training academy out of Prairie so I wonder if there is a tie there.
I think Askrens run a great club from what I’ve seen. Hope they have success with it.
