Welp, gave it a 2nd chance this morning. An enthralling discussion about hotel pillows followed by a smooth transition into airplane seats and airline WiFi. Learned my lesson. I’m done
Yeah, it was really bad this morning. Wanted to put my head through the window when Bussey was describing the women outside his hotel room smoking a cigarette.

Summer is the worst time for sports radio in DSM, but ... it sounds like they're not even trying.
I don't mind the off-topic discussions, especially during the off-season. Even CF is full of off-topic discussions this time of year.

Heather spends most of the radio shows reading tweets. I don't give a **** what someone said on Twitter.
This is apparently I thing. Although I listen to XM anymore, there is likely still a big drive time sports show in PHX that reads hundreds of tweets a show. They have a bunch of listeners that tweet incessantly and the host says "so and so says' and reads the tweet . They all have cute show adopted nicknames...

It's fairly ridiculous.

Even the nationwide shows though are doing lists and pop culture nonsense in July, to be fair.

The thing I learned today is that Iowa has 3 people for 247sports covering their content. Holy hell how is that even necessary?!?!

I haven't listened to KxNO for any length of time (I mean I catch a few minutes here and there to see what they are talking about and I usually end up switching channels right away), but I can empathize.

A few years ago, Iowa State upset someone in football (can't remember the team), and Monday morning I tuned in and hear Travis give a teaser about talking about "ISU's huge win" after the break. He came back on and started off saying Iowa State got a huge win, "but did you see that dog that got on the field during the game" and spent the next segment talking about that damn dog and half of the second segment instead of the game.

And when they got called out on not talking about the ISU win, they came back with, "What do you mean? We spent two whole segments on Iowa State's win

Travis was the worst about that. If he wasn't interested in a topic, it wasn't discussed, even if it was completely relevant.

He would mention that they talked about the Iowa State game in the first hour, but when you went back and listened to the first hour podcast, the game was barely mentioned at all.

Travis was notorious for doing this during Basketball season their last couple years on the air. He and Ross would kill like the first 45 minutes talking about random sh!t knowing that Cyclone fans were waiting to hear their breakdown of a big win. It became a game to them because Travis is a f*cking child. I remember people calling in to the show and bringing this up and that would just feed the game he was playing.

So, not much different than Sean and his baby-on-the-way talk. Every time I try to tune in there is zero sports talk...

The baby talk is a lot but he's (and wife) been thru A LOT of trauma.
When my wife would unexpectedly call me during the day I'd get super nervous based upon our history.

There was more discussion of Missouri Valley games than Big 12/10 games.

Iowa has a lot of people and publications covering them. Most are fan boys pretending to me media. They tend to stand behind the teams and programs no matter what. Wont call them out on anything. Lots of propping Iowa teams up as well as the teams they play.

I understand they had a miscarriage. And, to be honest, I was encouraged when he shared their experience. I am also in that club and it is awful. I worked every day through it (I suppose I could have called in sick a day or two, but I didn't want to answer questions) and basically never got to talk to anyone about it. Especially since Covid hit a month later. My subsequent successful pregnancy happened while everyone was working from home, so again, I went through that in isolation. Admittedly, I'm a little envious of people who get to have a "normal" pregnancy and share excitement with people. My husband and I were just alone through all of it.

Sounds like most of the media that covers Iowa.
Miller & Condon were commenting on how odd it was that there are so many more people who cover Iowa than ISU, but the bottom line is that there are a bunch of Iowa fans who are willing to work for peanuts in order to have access.

I generally don’t buy into the idea that there are these major cultural differences between ISU and Iowa fans, but there are definitely more of these arrested development man children who are huge Iowa fans, and place their fandom ahead of their personal and professional development

I like Busse. I decided to pay for his content and I’ve been more than satisfied. I wouldn’t wish being paired with Heather on anybody, especially if it’s their first radio hosting gig.
