I literally love my two dogs like family. That's coming from someone who has five children and two grandchildren. I'm not saying that I love my dogs more than my children or grandchildren, but I do love my dogs the same sort of way. I'm 100% sure that I would risk my own life to save either of them (house fire, gorilla or tiger attack or other unlikely event). I just look at my dogs and I see a real connection. I'm almost fully sure that they totally understand human feeling and feel the same way back to me as far as caring and love. I'm not saying this is a dog only thing as I'm sure others feel the same way with cats or other pets. Just holding my Goldendoodle now and watch him look at me made me thought to gush, I'm sure he "gets" me.

We don’t deserve dogs and cats. Or many animals for that matter.

Our dog and cat are 100% family. Yes our pup is 120 lbs and sheds. My better half gets so frustrated at the hair and the dog wanting to sleep with us.

He’s ten years old. I recently told my better half look. He’s ten. We have a few years left with him. We are his everything. One day you’re gonna miss the hair and his snoring body next to us.

I don’t fault anyone that is strict about dogs in beds. But I just think if you have a dog or cat you have them only for a limited time. Let them sleep with you. Feed them some human food now and then as long as they aren’t beggers.

The time with them goes so fast. Make it count!

My wife and I are more than happy to have our dogs sleep in bed with us. I will often give up my own comfort to accommodate one or both of them being bed hogs. I wouldn't do the same for my wife (and probably visa-versa) so I guess the dogs win.

My wife and I used to have a pet goldfish that we both grew very fond of. We decided to let it sleep with us one night.
Who woulda thunk? (after all we did have a waterbed)

As an alumni of Mary Greeley, class of '57, early in my pop's senior year of Vet Med,.....I appreciate my somewhat comfy early years because of people like all of you.

We have a 13 year old neurotic cat with many quirks. But he is also the most personable cat I’ve known. And candidly loves me more than anyone. It will be sad when he goes in a few years.

Also have a desert tortoise that lives in our back yard. Not nearly so cuddly. But I’m pretty sure he’s bonded with me as well. The other day I just sat out there and he walked up to me and pooped by my foot, so I know he recognizes me.

He’s also about the same age (was a rescue from the wild, adopted from the state so exact age is unknown). But will probably outlive all of us.

Also for past 20 years or so on my mom's side our pets have been going to Vet Med at ISU.

It's somewhat pricey but the care animals get there is above and beyond and worth every penny.

Pretty much. I buy power greens at Costco with kale spinach etc. No lettuce. That’s like a diet of potato chips to a tortoise. They love it but little nutritive value for them.

He also munches on grass if it gets long. I also have some prickly pear growing that he loves. I blocked it off. I know in the wild they encounter that but I struggle to see how cactus spines could be good to ingest.

We have three pups. Two female Malshis which are absolute terrors, feisty as they come, and one male Shichon who is about as laid back as can be. Can't imagine my house without them.
We have a female Shichon (rescue) as well. We also have a Frenchie and they are best of buds and do everything together.

After my husband and I got married we rescued a pup and had 16 wonderful years with him. Since saying goodbye we've added two female pups to our house and even though they are little stinkers our home wouldn't be complete without them! I grew up on a farm and now live in a city so they fill a void of not having all the farm animals
