77 mph wind gust at Independence last night around 2 that set off the alert system. We went to the basement around 2:30 with the 5 & 3 year old just to be safe. No damage in Monticello but 65 mph gust was recorded here

I was expecting a lot more than we got in Ames, which was pretty much nothing. Hope all elsewhere are OK.

Robins FD claimed they measured a gust to 98mph which prompted the warning to be upgraded to considerable damage possible and the sirens set off. I looked at the largely lack of storm reports and decided we were fine. I could see gusts to 70 but it wasn't 90+ less than five miles from them.

Seems to high wind reports were very isolated across the northern part of the state. People here derecho now and are all thinking of 2020, but that event was extreme even for derechos. Sustained 100+ mph winds is insane. That is a freak of freak type storm.

To be fair, most of us have PTSD from that storm. Seeing glass shatter and embed in drywall will do that lol

I'll never forget standing in my living room looking at the window and watching our 40 foot pine fall in just about the only spot it could have fallen without destroying our home. I'll never forget how quickly that thing kicked up and the kind of damage it did.

Forest City lucked out; I think 2 cells passed around us here. Golf course had nothing down this morning. Was closed yesterday for Sunday night storm cleanup.

Garner got hit. Several trees damaged, including one on their golf course that tipped over and became uprooted.
