*** Official #23 Tennessee vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

I can’t wait for next years team to run through the noncon, struggle in Big 12 play, turn it on in KC, and then lose in the sweet 16 again.

We'll be here for you to remind us of it all over again then, I suppose.

I’m disappointed we lost but, given Jefferson’s injury, I’m not surprised.

I’ve felt this way all season… TJ has some work to do as a coach. He’s an elite cheerleader. He’s elite at building a tough-minded team and getting his guys to “buy in”. But his staff needs to design some offensive actions to get open shots. Our offense can’t just rely on getting it transition or being “hot”. Against equally talented or more talented teams, the staff needs to have offensive sets to get good looks.

And good God, his teams are terrible at free throws. Two of his seasons, we shot 67% and one was 68% from the FT line for the season. His best season was 75% which was like 63rd best in NCAA.

Our margin of error was way too thin to be able to lose a guy like Jefferson and make a deep run. Still proud of these guys for their effort and just a really tough break with Jefferson going down.

At the same time, I think we got a pretty good draw. Tennessee is not that good and neither was Kentucky. Highly doubt we’d beat Michigan even with Jefferson, so the run would’ve ended there.

Maybe they’ll prove me wrong, but I’m guessing Michigan handles Tennessee easily.

I thought TN tonight was what I expected more of from KY.

So, we could jsut lose them all? That would be better? You liked the year before TJ coming back, did you?

We'll get there eventually. Maybe we'll be able to make it to the end of the season with the whole team once. That would be a good place to start.

Zero boards in 33 minutes at 6 feet 8 inches tall is an incredible achievement.
He is a spot up shooter. Expecting him to be the focal point of our offense would be like Arizona expecting Dell Orso to be their focal point. We need to be better.

I guess a small silver lining is I bet Milan comes back.

Toure
Batemon
Pleta
Buchanan
Milan

This is a good core. Add some guys from the portal, see what the freshmen can do, add in Mason Williams. Should be another good year.
Better find a big guy some where

This one stings, but this team gave me a ton of joy throughout a long winter. I'll miss seeing Tamin throw his body around. This season went fast.
I'm a bit worried about tjs scheme without tamin. Nextbueat shpuld be telling.

I agree to a point, but he can’t no show. Part of that is on coaching. He was just standing in the corner a lot of the game, which is insane.

He also needs to be able to fight through contact better. While I think he gets held like crazy, he just lets physical teams do it seemingly. Not a lot of fight out of that contact.

I saw him moving all over the place with cuts and picks. It was tough to get looks.

I think this sweet 16 game is going to be hard for tj to win until we get better offensively. Other team gets a week to prepare for the trap, and to realize if you keep us out of transition it's really hard for us to score.

The lack of half court offense puts a ceiling on this program. Don’t have to be great in the half court, but they can’t be this bad and expect to get very deep. Eventually you run into a game where you don’t feast off of live ball turnovers.

It needs to get better next year.

Well this hurt. But we are in pretty good shape as a program when we get bummed out losing in the sweet 16.
Rebounding free throws and turnovers killed us this game. No JJ didn't help anything either.
Well let TJ get the team reset for next yr and cheer them on again starting in Nov (?)

Disagree. The vols were all over him tonight. We needed better plays to free him up. Maybe he needed more plays in the paint.
Disagree. At 6’8”, he needs to be more versatile and be able to create his own shot…both inside and outside. He also needs to turn himself into a better rebounder. He’s an amazing shooter, but he’s slow-footed and doesn’t have enough of a motor right now.
