*** Official #23 Tennessee vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Also, Milan should have 100% wanted the ball in his hands to at least try to get fouled when he saw his teammates struggling at the line. He needs to develop into a leader. I’m not 100% down on him, but he’s got plenty of growth/development to do. I agree that he needs one more year.

CF when the 3 point shooter that has grabbed the least rebounds of anyone that played significant minutes this season doesn't grab 20 rebounds in the tournament:

The lack of half court offense puts a ceiling on this program. Don’t half to be great in the half court, but they can’t be this bad and expect to get very deep. Eventually you run into a game where you don’t feast off of live ball turnovers.

It needs to get better next year.
Especially when you get to the 2nd weekend and the teams are better equipped to handle the pressure

Well that sucked. I had a feeling Tennessee's height and rebounding was going to be a problem but I didn't think we'd get out rebounded by THAT much. Tennessee had so many second chance points it was insane.

And all of us here and everywhere else on social media called it....our season would end because of ft's. Definitely not the entire reason but it was a large factor in not keeping us in the game, especially when shot making was so hard to come by.

Sucks to have the "what if" scenario again...feels exactly like 2014 with Georges breaking his foot.

Last thing I'll say is thank you Tamin Lipsey for being a Cyclone. He is the definition of a hometown hero.

He made a million freaking dollars to not at least try when it counted most
I disagree. I think he would have played if he could. At some point a healthy but less talented guy like Heise is better than a really talented guy like JJ who has a serious mobility and jumping limitation. Plus, he's already hurt. It's not right to ask him to to take a chance on making a bad injury considerably worse.

We are always completely outmatched by a lower seeded team. Somehow we took Arizona to the wire. Was that game a fluke according to you?

I am just curious because you say this same thing every time. Even when we got toasted at Hilton years ago by Oklahoma State it was because they had better athletes.
I wonder what changed since the Arizona game? **** you guys are stupid.

This^ 100%. In TJ we trust. Has everything been perfect? No, but the program is in great shape. Just keep working and building good teams. the floor with TJ is a perennial tournament team. Just keep making the tourney

Actually the floor maybe the Sweet 16. Without injuries last year they may have gotten there 4 out of the last 5 years. 3 out of 5 isn’t bad in my book

I’m disappointed we lost but, given Jefferson’s injury, I’m not surprised.

I’ve felt this way all season… TJ has some work to do as a coach. He’s an elite cheerleader. He’s elite at building a tough-minded team and getting his guys to “buy in”. But his staff needs to design some offensive actions to get open shots. Our offense can’t just rely on getting it transition or being “hot”. Against equally talented or more talented teams, the staff needs to have offensive sets to get good looks.

And good God, his teams are terrible at free throws. Two of his seasons, we shot 67% and one was 68% from the FT line for the season. His best season was 75% which was like 63rd best in NCAA.
I thought we ran some great offense against Arizona in the big 12 championship. did some different things to get Jefferson the ball in the post. I think one big challenge is we don’t always seem to have a go to play in the half court that gets us comfortable. But maybe I’m just thinking of these games without Jefferson.

We need the play that works for when we don’t have the physical advantage on the other team.

I do wonder hiw soon tj starts hearing "hes good but can he win the s16" question

I don’t know what to say any more. Otz will get back to this spot. But 1-7 is unbelievable. Kansas State and Iowa just walked right on through the door. (Of course, we should never forget it came at the expense of Kansas State’s entire program.) Heck, Tennessee has made three straight Elite Eights and none of those teams was as good as Iowa State at full strength. Injury luck is real, maybe a neutral observer would say they had very good luck all season? But for two of the best teams in program history to have serious injuries in the tournament… It’s mind boggling
We just need to get deeper. It's the beer talking, but I'm ready to de- fund the football program if it could guarantee get us over the hump in men's basketball

Did you watch that OSU game and think ISU was more athletic? Do you know why ISU's shots got pasted down low the backboard a few times?

Illinois two years ago had length and good offense and threw on a defense for a game.

Do you only come around after this type of loss?

Everything that goes wrong in an Iowa State loss happened tonight. Bad free throws, players disappearing, and losing the rebounding battle. Tennessee wanted it more.
