*** Official #23 Tennessee vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

It’s just honestly insane how we can’t get over this sweet 16 hurdle. Injuries or not, it’s gotta be somewhat mental at this point.
Not really, we have had bad draws and injuries, the past few times we have made it this far. To win this you either have to be Arizona with uber talent, or playing at a really high level with confidence. We struggled tonight making shots, but we did the same thing against Kentucky in our last game for the first half. I wonder if we make that layup at the end of the half tonight, if it would have made a difference. You enter the locker room thinking we are getting killed on the boards, but have a 1 point lead. Regroup and go at it again.

Just overall pathetic Jefferson wouldn’t have made a difference, Milan you’re good at disappearing In big games. Iowa elite 8 we’re going home that should piss you off as a fan
A healthy Jefferson, and I think we possibly win that game... but no way we would have with a 50% at best Jefferson... and honestly we would have been worse with an injured Jefferson out there.

Very odd feelings this game. Hard to put into words but the scene in Ground hogs day does it the best where Bill Murray's character tries repeatedly to save a dieing homeless old man. After each death Bill tries a different thing but ends with him inevitably dieing.

This was the path for the team all along. It's a shame they couldn't have a different story but I appreciated it none the less.

I won't watch anymore of the tournament also. I'll check the scores but that's it.

I'm excited for next year. Toure and Batemon have things to work on, but they will do that and will be much better next year. Pleta will probably start at center. I like his potential and I hope Otz lets him shoot some 3s and mid range jumpers. Just need a good replacement for Jefferson and one more big to add depth in the front court. Lipsey's hustle and hard work will be missed.
This will only come from the portal. We don't have one on the team right now.

You know the kid body better than him.

So you haven't got a clue. A limping Jefferson was going to be a detriment

Probably not limping for long after having to be helped off the court about 5 minutes in with an even more-injured ankle.

So there's that.

It’s almost like people don’t realize Kentucky was a 7 seed that wasn’t all that good.

I appreciate the cope people trying to think this team wasn’t at a massive disadvantage without Jefferson, but he was pretty clearly ISUs best player.

Sweet 16 with your best player going out is not bad. It sucks but it is what it is.
Ecclesiastes 9:11: "The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong...but time and chance happen to them all." That's why they PLAY the games instead of just listening to the pundits. Luck ALWAYS plays a part, sometimes more, sometimes less, but it ALWAYS plays a part. ISU did a good job this year and they deserve not just respect but congratulations, particularly from their fans.

How many teams are going to make a deep run without their best player? You saw it with Tech losing Toppin. BYU losing Saunders certainly hurt them. Take away Stirtz from Iowa, Boozer from Duke, Lendeborg from Michigan, or Wagler from Illinois. Could they still make a deep run? I suppose its possible, but its a heck of a lot harder to do. Truth is it was just bad luck with Jefferson getting hurt, and while tonight was a disappointing result it shouldn't be a huge surprise either.
If Iowa lost Stirtz they would have lost first round.

Our leading rebounder wouldn’t have made a difference in a game where rebounding was the main issue…

He also would have given Milan some breathing room but sure dude..

It’s just unfortunate, I really do think TJ had them peaking at the right time this year, which is what we have all been asking for, but you just can’t overcome the loss of an All American at the home stretch like this. The what if’s are more depressing than the flame outs.

Our offense was trash and Tennessee did whatever they wanted Jefferson would of just dribbled into a turnover all night if he played
I kind of keep wondering about that too. The way we looked…I’m just not sure Jefferson would have made a difference. I guess we’ll never know though…

Calling bullsh*t on that one. There's plenty to criticize tonight but they did not quit.
And what exactly was positive about the second half? Mentally, they were starting to get checked out once the lead ballooned for Tennessee. It became a panic out there and you could just sense it.
