Bill Fennelly

It’s crazy to think everyone assumed he’d be done after this incredibly talented and deep Junior class graduated

And he managed to run them all out so he could get

4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years!

We just cannot afford the Fennelly buyout in terms of losing out on a few million that can be funneled to football or MBB. I do not feel like any of these ladies left with making more money being the factor. He needs to retire.

It's time. You can't let CBF stay at this point when he has lost the entire team. Who is going to come here and play for one year for a coach that is going to retire after next season anyways? CBF needs to realize it's time to walk away and let the rebuild happen now vs next season. At this point it would be ego keeping him for another year.

My thoughts exactly. I've been a supporter and defender of Bill for a long time, but there is no positives in him returning next season. I don't want to remember his last season as a patchwork roster that can't win.

Do the honorably thing Bill and retire. If you don't then I sure hope Pollard has the balls to fire you which would be an even bigger tarnish on your legacy here than you coming back for one last miserable season we likely would have to endure and watch you leave the program almost in the same state that you found it. Fans will still probably be loyal and show up to games because that is what our fans do but I can imagine that once losing sets in so will fan apathy just like Iowa MBB had happen with Lickliter and Fran once they wore out their welcomes.

They will piece together a team that will be in the bottom of the big 12. You can blame ego , but I think it’s the money. We can’t afford to fire him and he won’t walk away. I’m sure financially he would be fine, but remember him staying means another year of pay for his son.

Bill is staying on so his son gets paid.

Remember, ISU WBB is a "family business". If you aren't part of the Fennelly family, it is none of your business.

We can’t afford to fire him
I've said this several times already and I'll say it again -- if the numbers at USA Today are correct, the total buyout appears to be around $1M right now, but he's getting $700k of that (his retention bonus) even if he stays. The true net buyout of his last season is only around $300k, and we'd likely be saving a big chunk of that money by hiring someone cheaper.

Fact of the matter always was that ISU probably cannot afford to drop any more on a buy-out (read: any), it was always about Fennelly retiring if he was going to go now. Pollard cannot say publicly "well, we tried to get him to retire and he said no", so this is probably what he always had to say.

Just watched this.

He basically says He won't be the one to relieve Bill of his duties.
It pretty much indicates that Bill will finish out the contract. I think it ends next season. No extension likely.

What a **** show. :puke:

I cannot even begin to comprehend the stupidity of comparing this to football.

In football, you had a tenured coach leave and take dozens of his players with him. However, we knew we had a qualified coach coming in that would utilize the roster/recruits of the school he was leaving, plus newly freed up NIL funds, to create a quality team.

In basketball, you have a guy who has been here for 30 years who has wildly underperformed the last 4-5 years. You have massive retention issues that do not appear geared at NIL funds. Over the course of the last 4 years aside from 2 players, you've had every other player who was any good decide not to use their full eligibility here. In the past 10 months you've gone from pre-season Top 10 to having exactly 3 players on your roster. It's been a revolving door, seemingly because this archaic coach cannot figure out how to adapt in personality and playing style.

If you don't want to spend the money on a buyout, whatever. That's fine. But don't act like we are stupid.
