On That Note: Appetite For Music

She was looking very good and so was I, I must say - word
We hit McDonald's, pulled into the drive
We ordered two Big Macs and two large fries with Cokes
She kicked her shoes off onto the floor
She said, "Drive fast, speed turns me on"

He bought the American Dream but it put him in debt
The only game he could play was Russian roulette
He drank Coca-Cola, he was eating Wonder Bread
He ate Burger Kings, he was well fed
He went to Hollywood to see Peter O'Toole
He stole a Rolls Royce and drove it in a swimming pool

Dirt in the sky
Lonely the sound of footsteps on the gravel
Living a lie
Never around
Oh. I hope no one will discover
Dairy Queen is where she took me to tell me that her baby had my eyes
I got on my knee, went half pass crazy. I said, "Darling..."

What did I say?

Ooo-wee I saw the light
I saw it
Ooo-wee I saw the light
I saw it
Ooo-wee I saw the light
I saw it
Ooo-wee I saw the light

We'll get a slawburger, fries, and a bottle of Ski*
Bring it on out to my baby and me.

*Ski is a soft drink, not a reference to whiskey.

I met you at JC Penney
I think your name tag said "Jenny"
I cold step to you with a fresh pack of gum
Somehow I knew you were lookin' for some
Like a fruit that's ripe for a pickin'
I wouldn't do you like that Zankou Chicken
Cause only you've got a thing
That I just got to get with
I just got to get with you
And you know what we're gonna do

I had to look it up.

"Written by the team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, this song was inspired by a real cafe, a beanery called "Smokey Joe's" which was right next to an oil well at the corner of Beverly Boulevard and La Cienega. Oil wells were a very common sight in the early days of Los Angeles, but even at that it was unusual to see a greasy spoon restaurant dwelling in the shadow of one."

Holiday Inn hotels did have dining rooms, and in fact the brand was a pioneer in offering them.

It became the first hotel company in the world to have an onsite restaurant at every property. This was a major innovation at the time, as most motels and hotels did not provide full-service dining.

One of the most famous early offerings was the Sunday night chicken dinner served family-style, priced at $1.95 for adults and $1 for children under 12. This became a signature Holiday Inn experience in the 1960s and helped cement the brand’s reputation for family-friendly hospitality.
