••• 2026 Official Chicago Cubs Thread •••

The Cardinals also traded away three of their higher priced players this off season, to kick in the rebuild. Many of us Cards fans are just happy we are playing exciting ball, but also understand we are not catching the Brewers. Sorry but teams capable of making noise in the playoffs do not go on 10 game losing streaks. There is an old adage in baseball, you are never as good as you think you are when you are playing your best, nor as bad when you are playing at your worst.
How about you start a Cubs-Cards or mlb rivalry thread?

Cabrera was bad today if just lets the ball go through to Dansby it’s an ending double ball. This offense though is gross. Robbie Ray has been awful this year and the Cubs can only draw walks against him or hit weak infield pop ups

Cabrera was not good by any semblance but that ball was on him in fractions of a second. Asking him to let a ball go through the wicket is a hard ask.

Ball hit 100 mph travels 60 feet in 0.4 seconds. I doubt anyone wouldn’t try to put a glove on something that close to your nuts.

Bad day to be a Chicago sports fans. First the Indiana Bears and now the Giants have a two touchdown lead on the cubs

15 runs off HRs huh. Assuming it was a windy one. Amazing that our offense couldn't get to a starter who is top 10 in the league on HRs given up.
Not directed at any previous poster, but anyone that thinks this is a playoff team is delusional. This is a .500 ballclub if there ever was one. They were behind the 8-ball from the beginning with all three of their top SPs on the shelf, but the holes in the roster construction were always there and now they're unavoidable. Namely, great team defense is terrific on the margins, sure, but it's much more important that your position players can generate some freaking offense. And the Cubs can't deliver with the bats. $20MM (or more) per player per year for bats that can't generate even a 750 OPS is just plain bad roster choices. Swanson, LOL...but he's far from the only guilty party.

I think the lineup can be fixed by next year for the most part . Swanson only exception.

Amaya/Kelly are productive enough for solid backstops which they are. Only question is how much more can you get out of Kelly.

Busch is gonna come around plus you aren’t paying him yet.

Nico was and is a good investment

Bregman I’d wait a bit before giving up on him.

Happ/Suzuki I think we resign one. Happ you get what you get. Seya had a late start. I think he’s 8 and 20 through 50. He’ll end up 25 and 80

PCA personally I wouldn’t have extended him yet. Probably would of cost more but he still has some development as we all see.

The other outfield spot I hope we retain Conforto. Shaw Ramirez and hopefully Conrad lead the youth movement. One being a long term answer.

Ideal situation Conrad, PCA Shaw becomes our OF of the future. I just don’t see Alcantara ever being a productive player.

Ramirez we need Dansby to somehow go away.

Yeow, glad I turned it off at 9-0.

It's obvious Counsell doesn't have much confidence in his relief group other than Palencia. Feel like if he had any confidence in his relief group he would have pulled Imanaga last night after giving up 4 runs. And there have been a handful of other times he's tried to get an extra inning out of a starter and it backfired.

I get back on my soapbox and MLB should have a run rule or managers can throw in towel after 8 innings. It's silly to have position players pitch. And it could be an advantage to team being blown out. The Cubs threw Kelly in the 9th, while the Giants' had a RP (Smith) go in the 9th.
