Thought this was interesting in contrast to Milan's $6.5M contract

He's got a shot. Belmont had bottom of the Valley money and they were always competitive because of his offensive scheme.

It may all blow up, but Casey knows what he's doing on the bench.

Maybe so, but that roster is ROUGH in comparison to much of the conference. If they are middle of the pack even it’d be a hell of a job.

Can he win games building a team with character over money? I'm intrigued.
This is basically what we're attempting to do with the football program. We might be spending more on the MBB roster than the football roster this year. It's got to be close.

I think NIL era experience is proving that fit is more important than budget. Obviously having a nice budget is important, but the programs that seem to spend a ton just getting the best available are underperforming vs those (like TJ's) that are more concerned with finding players who fit their play style, work ethic and culture.

I think it's both spending and fit/culture. Only a few teams outspent Michigan. They won the whole thing with everyone of their starters as transfers. This gives a good perspective:

He is also a pretty good evaluator of talent. Look at the guys he either put into the NBA when he was at Belmont, or where the guys transferred up to and how they're doing/did at those schools.

Tyler Lundblade - now at Tennessee (transferred to Belmont from TCU)
Ja'Kobi Gillespie - was at Tennesee, may be in the NBA
Drew Scharnowski - Transferred to Duke this off season
Sam Orme - Transferred to Nebraska this off season
Cade Tyson - Transferred to North Carolina then Minnesota - didnt do much at UNC but had a nice year last year for MN
Malik Dia - Transferred to Belmont from Vandy, is now at Ole Miss and killing it.
Even Brauns - Transferred to Iowa and killed it, avg 1.9ppg over 2 years
Will Richard - Transferred to Florida and is now in the NBA
